PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Volodymyr Kersikov (ranked 303 p4p, 395 weight class) and Otto McBean (ranked 25 p4p, 32 weight class). Kersikov comes to the cage accompanied by DEF LEPPARD - Pour Some Sugar On Me. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Volodymyr Kersikov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Otto McBean!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McBean ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kersikov moves away.
McBean wants to clinch but Kersikov slips to the side

and Kersikov counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for McBean!
McBean is not content to let Kersikov control the position.
McBean takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
McBean tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kersikov trying to control the position but McBean is working away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kersikov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kersikov wants to lay and pray for a moment but McBean keeps working.

McBean is looking for a sweep.
Kersikov lands a nice forearm strike.
McBean manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Kersikov is trying to control but McBean manages to pass to mount!
Kersikov tries to improve his position but instead McBean has taken his back!

McBean is hanging on to Kersikov's back as he tries to escape.
Kersikov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Kersikov is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Kersikov tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Kersikov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

McBean is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
McBean wants to free his trapped foot but Kersikov is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kersikov is trying to maintain the position but McBean is very close to passing his half guard.
Kersikov works his way to full guard. Good work.
Kersikov pulls McBean in close to prevent any damage.

McBean is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McBean trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
McBean misses with an uppercut.

McBean drives through with a takedown into Kersikov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

McBean got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kersikov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McBean has managed to get both his arms back between Kersikov's legs - danger averted.

McBean works a leg free and moves into half guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

McBean throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kersikov tries to counter with a takedown but McBean is quick to defend against it.

It looks like Otto McBean has been cut.
Kersikov lands the left hand.
McBean changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
McBean shoots in but no luck this time.
McBean slips a jab from Kersikov.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McBean lands an overhand right.

Kersikov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McBean working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kersikov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kersikov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Kersikov is working McBean over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kersikov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McBean has momentary wrist control but Kersikov slips an elbow through the middle.
McBean can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kersikov controls the pace.

McBean looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kersikov content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


McBean changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kersikov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kersikov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McBean wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

McBean wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kersikov, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kersikov is looking to regain half guard here but McBean keeps moving and retains side control.

Kersikov is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McBean off and has taken his back!
McBean wants to control his opponent's hands but Kersikov gets his hands free.

Kersikov just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Kersikov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kersikov slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Kersikov is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Kersikov gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Kersikov gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Kersikov apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McBean misses with a looping left.

McBean is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kersikov.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Kersikov lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Kersikov seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Kersikov.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kersikov controlling well, preventing McBean from escaping the position.
Kersikov is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
