SSG 354 Chai vs Macker PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 25 wins and 13 losses; Stsyapan Chai! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 28 wins and 15 losses; Dan Macker! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Chai moves into the clinch. Chai is pressed up against the cage. Macker has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Chai down to the mat. Chai avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Macker fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Chai seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Chai clinches with his opponent.
Chai decides to pull guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Macker looking to pass the guard. Chai pulls Macker in close to prevent any damage. Macker postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Macker stays in close to Chai's body and controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chai is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Macker is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Macker wants to pass the guard but Chai is keeping the position. Chai controls Macker momentarily but Macker frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Macker controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Chai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Macker is one step ahead there. Chai keeping moving, preventing Macker from controlling successfully. Macker is pushing down on Chai's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chai is fighting to maintain full guard but Macker has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chai is looking for a sweep. Macker is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Macker wants to pass the guard but Chai is defending well. Macker performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Chai is not content to let Macker control the position. Macker sitting and controlling from the half guard. Macker is just content to waste time from the top position. Chai takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Macker controlling the pace for now. Chai gets back to half guard. Chai moves into full guard.
Chai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Macker wants to pass the guard but Chai is keeping the position. Chai tries to land a sweep but no joy. Macker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Chai is looking for a kimura but Macker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chai to get the leverage. Chai passes to side control. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Chai tries to move into full mount but can't pass Macker's legs.
