PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Quetzalcoatl Tlaloc (ranked 25415 p4p, 4014 weight class) and Odin Vaughan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tlaloc comes into the arena with Llamado de Huitzilopochtli blaring out of the sound system. Odin Vaughan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Quetzalcoatl Tlaloc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Odin Vaughan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tlaloc gets caught flat footed, as Vaughan shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Tlaloc on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tlaloc tries to get out of the position.
Vaughan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tlaloc really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vaughan trying to control but Tlaloc is working from the bottom.

Vaughan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tlaloc will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vaughan goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Tlaloc changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Vaughan tries to avoid it but Tlaloc manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Vaughan to the ground. Vaughan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Vaughan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Tlaloc shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Tlaloc content to control rather than advance.
Vaughan is trying to control but can't.
Tlaloc passes into side control, despite Vaughan's attempt to control the position.
Vaughan is looking to reverse the position.
Vaughan trying to control but Tlaloc flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Tlaloc connects with a big shot to the side of Vaughan's head.

Tlaloc throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Vaughan!
Tlaloc is not going to allow Vaughan to sit and survive in this position.
Vaughan is trapped and Tlaloc is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Vaughan trying to control the position but Tlaloc manages to sink in the hooks.
Tlaloc is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Vaughan up.
Tlaloc is landing with strikes. Vaughan can't take much more of this.
Tlaloc cracks Vaughan with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Vaughan from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Tlaloc gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Vaughan trying to control the hands but Tlaloc won't let him.
Vaughan can't escape the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vaughan is covering up but some of the strikes from Tlaloc are getting through and doing damage.
Tlaloc will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tlaloc doesn't have the hooks in and Vaughan manages to turn into his guard.
Tlaloc throws a nice elbow from the bottom.
Vaughan looking to sit in guard and control but Tlaloc gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Quetzalcoatl Tlaloc dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Excellent takedown into side control there by Tlaloc.
Vaughan sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Tlaloc looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Tlaloc has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vaughan is looking to get back to full guard here but Tlaloc has managed to pass to side control instead.
You can see the frustration on Vaughan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Tlaloc connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Vaughan some visible discomfort.
Vaughan is looking to regain half guard here but Tlaloc keeps moving and retains side control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tlaloc is chipping away with strikes.
Tlaloc creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Vaughan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tlaloc wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Tlaloc is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vaughan's shoulder. That is not cool.

Tlaloc has control of an arm but Vaughan manages to advance to Tlaloc's back!

Vaughan is looking for a rear naked choke here but Tlaloc reverses the position brilliantly into Vaughan's guard!
Tlaloc is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vaughan can do to turn this around?
Vaughan is breathing heavily.
Tlaloc loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Vaughan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Vaughan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tlaloc defends well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Tlaloc will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Vaughan enables Tlaloc to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Vaughan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Vaughan manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Vaughan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Tlaloc uses from the top position.

Vaughan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Tlaloc seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Tlaloc stalling away here and it's allowed Vaughan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Vaughan looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tlaloc puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Vaughan has hold of Tlaloc's hands but Tlaloc slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Vaughan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Quetzalcoatl Tlaloc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vaughan tries to sprawl but Tlaloc drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Vaughan kicks Tlaloc off and gets back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tlaloc has a takedown stuffed.
Vaughan fails with an attempt to clinch.

Vaughan connects with an inside leg kick.

Vaughan shoots in and bounces Tlaloc off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Tlaloc bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Vaughan's guard.

I would just about give that final round to Odin Vaughan.
I think Tlaloc has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
