The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Pearson closes the distance and pushes Birdwhistle back into the ropes.
Pearson is working for takedown but Birdwhistle is calmly controlling the position for now.
Pearson is pressed up against the ropes. Birdwhistle has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pearson down to the mat. Pearson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Pearson moves into the clinch successfully.
Pearson gets underhooks to prevent Birdwhistle's takedown attempt.

Birdwhistle pulls guard.

Birdwhistle bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pearson's guard.

Pearson has his foot on Birdwhistle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Birdwhistle works his way back into a safe position though.

Pearson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Birdwhistle doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Birdwhistle manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pearson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Birdwhistle escapes and throws Pearson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Birdwhistle is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pearson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Birdwhistle has hold of Pearson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pearson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Pearson tries to lock up and control but Birdwhistle gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Birdwhistle looking to control but Pearson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Pearson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pearson is squirming around, avoiding Birdwhistle's attempts to control the action.
Birdwhistle avoids the attempt from Pearson to control.
Pearson tries to reverse the position but Birdwhistle maintains control.

Birdwhistle is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Pearson is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Pearson flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Birdwhistle anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Pearson and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Birdwhistle slips an arm under Pearson chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Birdwhistle has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Birdwhistle is squeezing on Pearson like an anaconda would it's prey. Pearson fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
