PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kim Jones (ranked 861 p4p, 2352 weight class) and William Riker (ranked 52 p4p, 113 weight class). Riker has chosen In The Summertime as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Kim Jones could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to William Riker's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kim Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, William Riker!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riker misses with a left hand
and Jones counters with a stiff right hand.
William Riker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Riker fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones sprawls well initially but Riker persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones tries to get to full guard but Riker has control of the leg.
Riker is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Jones manages to get to full guard.
Riker wants to stand but Jones is controlling his posture from full guard.
Riker is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
My spies in Roosters Coop inform me that Riker has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Jones controls Riker momentarily but Riker frees himself.

Jones seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Riker wants to stand and escape but instead Jones has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Jones drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Riker dives on top into guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Riker wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Jones uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Jones has his foot on Riker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riker works his way back into a safe position though.

Riker swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

William Riker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Riker misses with a jab to the body
and Jones counters with a straight right hand.
Kim Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Riker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Riker throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
Riker scores with a hook to the body. Jones takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Jones lands with a cross.

It looks like William Riker has been cut.

Riker drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Riker defends well.
William Riker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jones is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Riker is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riker tries to stand but Jones is controlling from the bottom.

Riker stands and steps away. Jones gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Riker cracks Jones with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Riker checks a leg kick.
Riker changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Riker displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jones throws out the jab.
Riker misses with a lunging right hand
and Jones counters with a crisp right that sends Riker to the canvas! Jones follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kim Jones!
After the fight, Kim Jones was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
