Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Baron Welch (ranked 3123 p4p, 2370 weight class) and Rico Suarez (ranked 294 p4p, 233 weight class). Welch comes into the arena with Red Light blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Baron Welch! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rico Suarez! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welch shoots in but Suarez avoids the takedown attempt easily. Suarez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Welch shoots for a takedown but Suarez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Welch will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baron Welch. That's going to take a lot out of him. Welch is trying hard to land a takedown here. Suarez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Suarez doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Suarez swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Welch shoots in for a takedown but Suarez shows good takedown defense. Welch shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Suarez as he jumps to the side. Welch slips under a jab from Suarez. Baron Welch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Suarez wants to clinch up but Welch keeps it at a distance. Suarez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Welch! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Suarez grinds an elbow into Welch's temple. Suarez is chipping away with strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Welch is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Welch is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Suarez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Check out the look on Suarez's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Welch is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Welch is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Welch taking some punishment here, with Suarez in his half guard. Suarez is nestled in close to Welch, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Oh Welch is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Suarez working over Welch with some ground and pound. Welch looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Ground and pound from Suarez. Suarez is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Welch is hurt! He's hurt bad - Suarez fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Welch from any more punishment! Congratulations to Suarez! Great finish!
