PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23132 p4p, 23388 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Way Nada told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 67 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 56 - 58 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Libat as he avoids it easily.
Libat shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nada thinks about the counter body kick.
Nada dives in and grabs Libat's left leg, looking for a takedown. Libat pushes down on Nada's head and hops out.
Nada has a takedown stuffed.
Libat jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Higanti Libat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nada lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Libat slaps away a takedown attempt from Nada, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nada shoots for a takedown but Libat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Libat looks for the body kick but Nada saw that one coming.
Nada wants to counter the offense by Libat and move into the clinch position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Libat shoots for a takedown but Nada saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Libat bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Libat takes a little break here. Nada wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Libat controlling from side mount.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Libat has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Libat.
Nada is trying to counter with his kicks.
Nada stuffs the takedown.
Nada replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Libat blocks it well.
No luck for Nada with that takedown attempt.
Libat quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada closes the distance and clinches up with Libat, looking for a takedown. Nada pushes Libat against the cage but Libat circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And Libat counters with a quick kick to the body but Nada blocks it.

Libat gets caught flat footed, as Nada shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Libat is adopting a defensive guard.
Libat trying to control the position.

Libat has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nada is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Libat.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Libat defending against the ground and pound.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Libat is trying to control Nada's posture but Nada avoids it.
Nada controls the position from side control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Libat shoots in for a takedown but Nada shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Higanti Libat. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nada is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Nada is concentrating on defense, preventing Libat from advancing position.
Nada is looking to control Libat's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nada avoid being mounted?
Nada desperately trying to maintain half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Nada throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Nice sprawl there from Libat as Nada shoots in.
As Nada backs away, Libat returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Nada enables Libat to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nada manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Nada is controlling Libat's posture.
Higanti Libat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nada avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Libat is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nada looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nada can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Libat controls the pace.
Nada has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Libat throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Libat bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Nada is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Libat remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Nada is holding Libat down, trying to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Libat works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Higanti Libat showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Libat has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
