PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 23429 p4p, 23283 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 76 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 54 - 60 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Salvacion shoots in and gets a takedown into Amiga's guard.
Amiga managing to control the position.
Salvacion slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Amiga throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Amiga has his hands on Salvacion's head, controlling the position.

Amiga manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Salvacion manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Amiga's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Salvacion is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Amiga feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Amiga controls the pace.
Salvacion looking for a sweep. Not yet Salvacion, not yet.
Salvacion being controlled here, momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Amiga has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Amiga shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Salvacion as he avoids it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga fails with the takedown.
Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tapad Amiga will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Salvacion shoots in for a takedown but Amiga shows good takedown defense.
Amiga is looking to counter with a body kick.

Salvacion darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Amiga has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Salvacion is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Amiga trying to control but Salvacion postures up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Salvacion throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Amiga to regain full guard.
Amiga looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Salvacion gets a takedown into half guard.
Amiga controlling the position well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Amiga's head.
Amiga has his hands clasped together around Salvacion's back. He's all about the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Salvacion takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Amiga is trying to control but can't.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Salvacion feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rico Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Amiga throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Salvacion was covering up waiting for the punch and Amiga finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Salvacion controls Amiga momentarily but Amiga frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion wants to sweep here but Amiga controlling him for the moment.
Amiga slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Amiga seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Salvacion for as long as he can get away with.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Salvacion is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Salvacion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Salvacion fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Amiga to the ground. Salvacion is now in Amiga's guard.
Salvacion is fighting to break Amiga's control of his arms but Amiga is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Amiga is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Amiga looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salvacion is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Salvacion has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Amiga controlling Salvacion's posture.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tapad Amiga.
I think Amiga has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
