Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alonso Franklin (ranked 3851 p4p, 3199 weight class) and Asher Simpson (ranked 354 p4p, 313 weight class). Asher Simpson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alonso Franklin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Asher Simpson! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Darius Henderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franklin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Simpson lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Franklin scores with a takedown into Simpson's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Simpson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Franklin fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Franklin is trying to pull guard but Simpson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alonso Franklin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Franklin fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Franklin tries to pull guard but Simpson forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Simpson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Franklin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Simpson throws the kick towards the body but Franklin avoids it. Franklin takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. This has been an exciting period of action! Franklin's jab looks to have found its range, popping Simpson under the eye.
That's one minute gone in the round. Simpson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Simpson throws a nice looking combination but Franklin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Franklin half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Simpson walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Franklin checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Simpson connects with a body shot that sends Franklin's belly button to the back. Simpson misses with a straight right. Simpson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Franklin was well out of range. Poor timing from Simpson. Franklin tries to counter with a takedown but Simpson is quick to defend against it. Asher Simpson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Franklin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A cross from Simpson lands. Simpson wants to slow Franklin down by chopping away at his legs. Franklin drops down looking for a counter takedown but Simpson sprawls and moves away. Simpson misses with a wild combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Simpson throws a shot from downtown. Franklin moves away and avoids it. Franklin misses with a hook. Simpson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Franklin throws out the jab. Simpson connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Simpson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Franklin connects with a nice looking jab.

and Simpson counters with a good, hard body kick but Franklin shrugs it off. Simpson throws a right and a left that both miss. Simpson with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Simpson throws a head kick that misses and Franklin counters with a shoot takedown. Simpson fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franklin tries to free his leg and advance position but Simpson is retaining full guard. Franklin controlling from the top position. Franklin pushing down on Simpson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Franklin stops Simpson from getting back to his feet.
Simpson won't allow Franklin to pass to mount. Simpson is in trouble now - Franklin has advanced to mount! Franklin tries to control but Simpson wriggling away. Franklin controlling the pace for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Franklin working for a submission but Simpson is keeping him at bay. Franklin looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Franklin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Simpson is looking to escape. Franklin wants to finish this one by submission but Simpson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Franklin. Simpson wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Franklin quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Franklin but it's paid off an Simpson is forced to tap! Nice work by Franklin.
