Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Walker Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Scott Calvin!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calvin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mathis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Calvin somewhat.
Mathis is looking to counter punch.
A punch combination from Mathis misses.
Mathis has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Purpose Martial Arts Academy in the buildup to the fight.
Calvin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mathis to the mat! Mathis manages to get full guard.
Calvin lands a couple of digs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calvin throwing strikes from guard but Mathis blocks nicely.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Calvin's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Calvin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Calvin lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Calvin with a nice head shot there.
Calvin passes into half guard.
Calvin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mathis's head.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Mathis on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Mathis missing with punches from the bottom.
Mathis is in trouble now - Calvin has advanced to mount!
Mathis is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Calvin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Calvin scoring with strikes but Mathis is staying in there.
Mathis is rocked!
Calvin is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Mathis goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Calvin!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Scott Calvin!
