Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rey Ross (ranked 4116 p4p, 24958 weight class) and Xander Philips (ranked 342 p4p, 445 weight class). Xander Philips will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rey Ross! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Xander Philips! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Philips throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Ross leaves Philips with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. A punch lands to the side of Philips 's head but he takes it in his stride.
It looks like Xander Philips has been cut. Ross avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ross moves in looking to clinch but Philips pushes him off. Ross comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. We've been hearing reports that Ross has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Philips lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Ross backwards. Ross lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

A swing and a miss from Ross. Philips lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Philips tries to bum rush Ross with a series of wild strikes but Ross uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Philips throws a solid leg kick but Ross takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Philips. Ross clinches up with Philips and pushes him back against the cage. Ross tightens his grip and picks Philips up, before dumping him to the ground. Philips manages to land in guard. Ross throws an elbow that misses. Philips uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ross's guard. Nice move by Philips!

Philips changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ross tries to avoid it but Philips manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ross to the ground. Ross escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Philips throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Ross has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. This has been an exciting period of action! Ross gets tackled into the cage by Philips. Philips maintains the clinch. Ross gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Ross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Philips wants to get back to his feet but Ross is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Ross throwing shots but Philips is blocking nicely. Philips really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ross. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Philips keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ross takes a little breather and maintains the position. Ross is nestled in close to Philips, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Ross trying to control the action but Philips is working from the bottom. Ross throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Ross content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ross's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that's the end of the fight! Rey Ross showed his dominance in that final round. Well Ross has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Xander Philips was interviewed post fight and said 'Listen, listen... I tried my hardest and i was doing amazing. Then suddenly a couple shots and im here. Submission or tko. I keep fighting. I want the rematch asap'.
