Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Escobar (ranked 4480 p4p, 4981 weight class) and Ruben Smith (ranked 465 p4p, 487 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ruben Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Smith is trying to force a seperation but Escobar has the dominant position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Escobar jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Escobar gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

I was talking to Escobar's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Escobar lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Smith backwards.
Escobar fails to pull guard.
Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Escobar has double underhooks.

Escobar gets control of Smith's arms and successfully pulls guard. Escobar will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Escobar seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Escobar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Escobar is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith has control of an arm but Escobar manages to advance to Smith's back!
Escobar lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Escobar is trying to control but Smith is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ruben Smith will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Escobar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Smith in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Smith looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Escobar takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Smith. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oooh a lovely combination from Smith sends Escobar down but not out. Smith dives into side control looking to finish.

Oh Escobar is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Smith throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Escobar looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
