The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Fukumoto is working for a kimura but Melendez is defending it quite comfortably.

Fukumoto should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Fukumoto escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Melendez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Melendez has gone for a leg lock! Fukumoto slips out almost immediately though and dives into Melendez's guard.

Fukumoto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Fukumoto swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
