This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 0 losses; Manny Johnson! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 16 losses; Daijiro Kimura! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Johnson leaves Kimura with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Johnson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kimura sprawls and moves away. Kimura shoots in for a double leg but Johnson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Kimura shoots for a takedown but Johnson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Johnson tries to counter with a takedown but Kimura is quick to defend against it. Johnson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Manny Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daijiro Kimura. Kimura dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Kimura's head and hops out. Kimura closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kimura lands in his opponent's guard. Kimura keeps trying to improve his position. Kimura is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Johnson reverses the position - he's now on top in Kimura's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Johnson (2) vs (2) Kimura Kimura looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Johnson passes into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Kimura tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Johnson presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! That's four minutes gone in the round. Kimura wants to hold on but Johnson pushes him away. Johnson prevents Kimura from getting the reversal. Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Kimura working to try and regain half guard.
Kimura is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Kimura has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Johnson avoiding Kimura 's attempts to control his hands. You can see the frustration on Kimura's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Kimura is still trying to improve position. Kimura trying to control but not successfully. Kimura is really stuck here.
Johnson controls the position. Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kimura for as long as he can get away with.

Johnson gets his hands free as Kimura looks to control. You can see the frustration on Kimura's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Johnson preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Kimura tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johnson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Johnson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kimura is working away from the top position though.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Kimura is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
