PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Ryans (ranked 3821 p4p, 3962 weight class) and Ibrahim Nurzhan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nurzhan has chosen Kazakh Disco Dance as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Ryans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ibrahim Nurzhan!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryans swats away the attempt to clinch by Nurzhan.
Ryans clobbers Nurzhan with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Nurzhan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ryans defends it nicely.
A lazy body kick from Nurzhan

and Ryans counters with a shoot takedown. Nurzhan fights it but they end up in guard.

Nurzhan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Ryans presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The referee calls for Ryans to work.

Ryans pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ryans moves into the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ryans gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Nurzhan trying to keep a closed guard but Ryans is proving a slippery customer.

Ryans controls from within his opponent's guard.
Ryans knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nurzhan on the ground.
Ryans tries to free his leg and advance position but Nurzhan is retaining full guard.

Nurzhan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ryans doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ryans manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ryans stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Nurzhan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ryans circles away from the clinch attempt
and Nurzhan takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Ryans gets a takedown into half guard.

Nurzhan looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Nurzhan looking for submissions off his back.
Ryans perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Nurzhan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ryans is working away from the top position though.
Ryans seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Nurzhan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ryans pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryans is taking a breather. Nurzhan says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nurzhan wants to get back to his feet.
Ryans performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Nurzhan is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nurzhan tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Ryans has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Ryans controlling his opponent.
Nurzhan tries to lock up and control but Ryans gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ryans with the ground and pound from mount.
Ryans looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Ryans tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Nurzhan is trying desperately to improve position.
Ryans lands a big shot there that rocks Nurzhan but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Ryans dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Ryans misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nice sprawl there from Ryans as Nurzhan shoots in.
Nurzhan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Ryans gets a double leg takedown into Nurzhan's guard.

Nurzhan pushes Ryans off and scrambles back to his feet.
Nurzhan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Ryans shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nurzhan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ryans postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ryans stands up from Nurzhan's guard - Ryans perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ryans looking to score a takedown here. Nurzhan is defending well but Ryans drives through and ends up in Nurzhan's guard.
Jake Ryans overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ryans gets to his feet. Nurzhan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ryans scores with a takedown into Nurzhan's guard.

Nurzhan throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Ryans escapes and throws Nurzhan's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Nurzhan looks to move to half guard but instead Ryans has passed into mount! Damn!
Ryans putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Nurzhan is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ryans tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Nurzhan sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Nurzhan trying to control from the bottom.
Nurzhan won't allow Ryans to pass to mount.
Nurzhan looks like he's trying to stand up.
Nurzhan manages to get to full guard.
Ryans is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nurzhan can do to turn this around?
Nurzhan wants to stand up but Ryans is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ryans avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Nurzhan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ryans got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nurzhan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ryans has managed to get both his arms back between Nurzhan's legs - danger averted.
Ryans seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ryans stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nurzhan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ryans's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ryans decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Nurzhan, up you get!

and Ryans counters by moving into the clinch.
Jake Ryans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ibrahim Nurzhan.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ryans as Nurzhan tries to tie him up.
A nice right hand lands inside from Ryans.
Nurzhan lands an elbow inside that Ryans shrugs off.

It looks like Jake Ryans has been cut.
Nurzhan stalling in the clinch but Ryans improves position.
Nurzhan is looking to control Ryans's arms but Ryans gets an underhook and turns him. Now Nurzhan has his back to the cage.
Ryans tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nurzhan smiles and moves away.
Nurzhan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nurzhan lands with a kick to the temple. Ryans shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A head kick misses from Nurzhan.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Ryans dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Jake Ryans's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Ryans throws a sloppy head kick and Nurzhan moves out of range easily.
Jake Ryans is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ryans blocks the body kick.

Ryans gets a double leg takedown into Nurzhan's guard.
Ryans has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ryans is in close to Nurzhan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ryans is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Nurzhan is looking for a triangle but Ryans pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ryans decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Nurzhan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nurzhan moves to clinch but Ryans breaks away
enabling Ryans to counter with a crisp jab.

Nurzhan closes the distance but Ryans moves to the side

and Ryans counters with a shoot takedown. Nurzhan fights it but they end up in guard.
Ryans controls from within his opponent's guard.

Nurzhan looking for a guillotine here but Ryans defends easily.

Ryans looking to improve position, pressing down on Nurzhan's thigh with his hand. Nurzhan seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Ryans paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Ryans's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Nurzhan picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ibrahim Nurzhan!
As Ibrahim Nurzhan got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: Blya ïä'.
