The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Curls gets the takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Curls (4) vs (0) Chai Curls taking a breather here. Chai tries to buck Curls off but Curls is having none of it. Chai keeps trying to improve his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Curls moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. That's one minute gone in the round. Chai is in all sorts of trouble here.
Curls is looking to work his way around to Chai's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Chai is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chai tries to hold on but Curls postures up. Curls controlling his opponent. Chai wants to control but Curls is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Curls takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Chai tries to reverse the position but Curls maintains control. Chai felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Curls moves to the back. Curls gets his hands free as Chai looks to control.

You can see the frustration on Chai's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Chai trying to control the hands but Curls won't let him. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Curls is hanging on to Chai's back as he tries to escape.

Curls keeps control of the position easily here as Chai tries to buck him off.
Curls is not going to allow Chai to sit and survive in this position. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

And he's not even managing to do that successfully. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Curls is looking to improve his position.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Curls is not content to let Chai control the position. Curls manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Chai is trying to maintain the position but Curls is very close to passing his half guard. Curls controlling the action here.

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Chai has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Curls is working away from the top position though. Chai tries to roll over but Curls keeps him under control. Chai is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Curls pulls his head out easily. Curls stalling.

Curls is trying to control the action in half guard but Chai is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Curls seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Chai trying to control here.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Chai is looking for a sweep. Curls is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Chai keeps control of the position for the meantime. Chai trying to control from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Chai won't allow Curls to pass to mount. Chai keeping hold of Curls's head, controlling as best he can.
