This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 34 wins and 19 losses; Cesare Borgia! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 27 wins and 18 losses; Jisoo Oh! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Oh shoots in but Borgia avoids the takedown attempt easily. Borgia shoots in and bounces Oh off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Borgia (2) vs (0) Oh Oh trying to keep a closed guard but Borgia is proving a slippery customer.
Borgia slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Oh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Borgia is one step ahead there. Borgia engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We've been hearing good reports from Borgia's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oh has Borgia pulled in close to control his posture.

Oh tries to buck Borgia off but Borgia is having none of it. Oh is trying to control Borgia's posture but Borgia avoids it. You can see the frustration on Oh's face as Borgia controls the position. Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oh keeps working. Oh is looking for a sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oh regains half guard. Oh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Oh is pressing down on Borgia's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Oh is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Borgia controls from within his opponent's guard. Oh tries to land a sweep but no joy. Oh managing to control the position. Oh is trying to keep Borgia in close.

Oh looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Borgia puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Borgia content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Oh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Borgia not doing much here.
Borgia wants to take a breather but Oh is having none of it. Borgia tries to pass the half guard into mount. Oh knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Oh wants to get back to full guard but Borgia has mounted him! Score +3 for passing guard: Borgia (8) vs (0) Oh Borgia controlling the position easily from mount. Borgia avoids the attempt from Oh to control.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Oh is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Borgia controlling from the full mount. Oh sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Oh is looking to improve his position.
Borgia is figuring out what he wants to do next. Borgia's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Oh keeps working.

Score +3 for passing guard: Borgia (11) vs (0) Oh Borgia controlling his opponent. Oh tries to hold on but Borgia postures up. Borgia prevents Oh from getting the reversal. Oh is squirming around, avoiding Borgia's attempts to control the action. Oh wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Score +3 for taking back: Borgia (14) vs (0) Oh Borgia is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Oh wants to escape the position.

Oh tries to roll but Borgia sticks to his back.
Borgia biding his time, controlling Oh. Borgia is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Oh is defending well though. Borgia let's go of the attempt for now. Oh breaks Borgia's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Oh content to stall in guard here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Borgia is on top in guard.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Oh looking for a guillotine here but Borgia defends easily.
Oh wants to sweep but no luck. Oh has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Borgia preventing the sweep. Oh can't keep his opponent in guard - Borgia advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Borgia wants to take a breather but Oh is having none of it. Borgia looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Oh wants to control but Borgia is keeping busy.
Borgia is figuring out what he wants to do next. Oh tries to roll over but Borgia keeps him under control. Oh gets full guard. Borgia controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Oh pulls Borgia in close to his closed guard and prevents Borgia from doing any damage or advancing position.

Oh is looking to reverse the position. Borgia is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Borgia has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Oh tries to get back to half guard but can't. Oh is being controlled here. Borgia trying to control the action but Oh is working from the bottom. Oh is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Oh's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Oh being controlled for a moment. Borgia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Oh for as long as he can get away with. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Borgia continues to stall. Oh is not content to let Borgia control the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Borgia takes the fight on points by 19 to 2. Cesare Borgia was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. |
