PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Corwin Anstey (ranked 1342 p4p, 1752 weight class) and Aleksandr Zuev (ranked 193 p4p, 248 weight class). Anstey comes into the arena with Let's hear it for the boy blaring out of the sound system. On his way into the cage it seems that Corwin Anstey has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Corwin Anstey seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 39 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corwin Anstey!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aleksandr Zuev!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zuev lands a front kick.
Anstey keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Anstey feints and as Zuev raises his hands in defense, Anstey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Anstey pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zuev is keeping the position for now.
Anstey wants to control from the top but Zuev keeps moving.
Zuev wants to sweep here but Anstey controlling him for the moment.
Anstey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zuev swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Anstey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zuev wants to sweep but no luck.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Zuev is on top in guard.

Zuev is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Zuev seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Anstey drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Zuev tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Zuev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Anstey is working away from the top position though.

Anstey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zuev is just riding it out for now. Anstey eventually gives up the hold.

That was a close round but I would say that Corwin Anstey will probably get the nod.

Anstey fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Zuev to the ground. Anstey is now in Zuev's guard.
Anstey is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zuev can do to turn this around?

Anstey shoots in and bounces Zuev off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Anstey here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Zuev tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Poor strikes thrown by Zuev there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
