PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rafa Peziev (ranked 2706 p4p, 3795 weight class) and Chris Wilson (ranked 162 p4p, 197 weight class). Wilson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Final Countdown. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rafa Peziev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peziev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wilson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Peziev somewhat.

Peziev closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Wilson's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Peziev lands a couple of digs.
Peziev is working Wilson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Wilson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Peziev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Peziev wants to work for an arm triangle but Wilson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Wilson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Peziev has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Wilson is defending against the submission attempts here by Peziev.

Wilson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Peziev working the head and body with strikes.
Wilson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peziev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Peziev is nestled in close to Wilson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Peziev frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peziev takes Wilson's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Wilson is in trouble.

Peziev is persistently looking for the submission but Wilson is defending it well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Peziev looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wilson is fending him off so far but Peziev persists. Nope, Wilson circles away and we're back to standing.
Wilson is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Peziev is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rafa Peziev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Peziev uses his free foot to push down on Wilson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wilson.
Peziev connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Peziev is working for a guillotine from mount but Wilson frees his head quite easily.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Peziev! Wilson is hurt baaadly! Peziev is firing away with more strikes - Wilson is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Rafa Peziev was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
