Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Griffin (ranked 2397 p4p, 5108 weight class) and Mike Chester (ranked 288 p4p, 475 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Chester!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Anthony Taglia and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin on the wrong end of a nice jab.
A bone on bone clash there as Chester blocks the leg kick.

Chester connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Chester is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Chester fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Griffin is out of range.
Griffin swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Chester! But no joy.

Griffin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chester dives on top into guard.

Chester not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Griffin wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griffin lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Griffin throws a strike but Chester rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Griffin wants to hit a sweep here but Chester passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Griffin there!

That was a close round but I would say that Matthew Griffin will probably get the nod.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Griffin is trying to break the clinch but Chester has him pressed against the cage.

Chester scores with a nice hook to the head.
Chester pushes Griffin back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Griffin can't break the clinch.
Griffin tries to pull guard but Chester forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Chester keeps control of Griffin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Chester lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Griffin backwards.

Chester pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Griffin looks to land a left hand but Chester moved out of range nicely.
No joy there for Griffin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chester connects with a solid leg kick.
Griffin's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Griffin duly obliges.

Chester gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Griffin has had enough of the clinch but Chester keeps him there for the moment.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Chester.
Chester lands a left hand that snaps the head of Griffin backwards.
Chester fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Chester lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Chester stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Chester creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Chester has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Griffin seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Chester can turn it around.

Chester gets through Griffin's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Chester digs a right hand into Griffin's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Griffin's gas tank.

Griffin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The fighters circling - Griffin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Griffin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Griffin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mike Chester showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
