PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodney Pitstain (ranked 2997 p4p, 2717 weight class) and Boris Piekny (ranked 337 p4p, 310 weight class). The key to victory for Rodney Pitstain has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Rodney Pitstain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Boris Piekny!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pitstain tried to score with a low kick but Piekny checks it.
Pitstain throws a head kick but Piekny moves out of range.
Pitstain misses with a few strikes there.
Pitstain pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Piekny moves out of range of the leg kick from Pitstain.
Piekny is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Some wild striking there from Pitstain.
Pitstain throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Piekny.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Piekny has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Piekny takes the fight into the clinch.

Piekny escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pitstain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Piekny looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Pitstain throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pitstain throws the kick towards the body but Piekny avoids it.
Pitstain looks to score with a jab to the body but Piekny is just out of range.
A combination from Pitstain does no damage.
No joy there for Pitstain, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pitstain lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Rodney Pitstain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Piekny pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Piekny closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Pitstain did well to prevent Piekny getting side control.

Still in half guard, Piekny seems content to control.
Pitstain wants to get back to his feet.

Piekny looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Piekny is just content to waste time from the top position. Pitstain takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Piekny prevents Pitstain from getting back to his feet.
Piekny stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pitstain swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Piekny passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Pitstain is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Piekny has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Piekny moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pitstain prevents Piekny from moving into mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pitstain is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Piekny is controlling him well.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Piekny takes the fight into the clinch.
Pitstain tries to circle away but Piekny has him pinned against the cage.

Pitstain looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Piekny is pushing Pitstain up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Piekny receives a warning from the referee for stalling.

Piekny is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Pitstain is defending well.

Piekny decides to pull guard.
Piekny is adopting a defensive guard.
Pitstain would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Pitstain has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Piekny is working an open guard so Pitstain takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Pitstain feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Pieknys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Piekny darts in looking for a takedown but Pitstain gets double underhooks and turns Piekny into the cage.
Rodney Pitstain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Boris Piekny.
Pitstain throws a right hand that Piekny ducks under and follows up with a left that Piekny also avoids with ease.

Piekny moves into range and clinches up with Pitstain.
Piekny wants a takedown.

Piekny manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Pitstain won't allow Piekny to sweep him here.
Pitstain is looking to stand up but Piekny won't let him.
Piekny is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pitstain gets to his feet - Piekny follows without any prompting.

Pitstain wants to stand but Piekny is controlling the position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pitstain is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Piekny is controlling him.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Boris Piekny showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Pitstain throws a series of punches but Piekny moves out of range.
Pitstain misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Pitstain throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Piekny counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piekny slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Pitstain wants to get back to his feet but Piekny is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Piekny's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Piekny advances to half guard.
Pitstain is trying to stand back up but Piekny is controlling him
Piekny content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Pitstain is looking to get back to is feet but Piekny passes into side control.

Piekny's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Piekny in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Pitstain is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Jumping up and down and very excited, Boris Piekny waved his t-shirt featuring BANZAI NUTRITION's logo in front of the cameras.
In defeat, Rodney Pitstain stepped up to the mic, saying 'You can't hang and bang with everyone, but I did my best tonight. Screw the haters, I love you all, though.'.
