Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cody Beair (ranked 25364 p4p, 2521 weight class) and Mike Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 244 weight class). Cody Beair has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cody Beair!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Simmons!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beair clinches.
Beair prevents a takedown attempt there.
Simmons lands a knee to the body.
Beair will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Simmons up against the cage.
Simmons tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Beair just stands there and leans against the cage.
Simmons stalling in the clinch.
Simmons prevents a takedown attempt there.

Beair breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Beair throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Beair closes the distance and clinches.

Simmons pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Beair decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Simmons's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Simmons has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Beair has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Simmons blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Simmons looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Simmons has Beair pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Beair manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Beair drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Simmons gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Beair ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Beair no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Beair has his foot on Simmons's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Simmons works his way back into a safe position though.

Beair has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Simmons off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Simmons tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Beair paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Beair is looking for a counter combo.
Beair shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Simmons defends it nicely.
Simmons unleashes a big counter combination but Beair bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Simmons wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Beair misses with the combination.
Simmons shoots in for a takedown but Beair shows good takedown defense.

and Simmons counters with a one-two to the body.

Beair decides to pull guard.
Beair looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Simmons is looking to work some ground and pound but Beair has wrist control.
Simmons looking to sit in guard and control but Beair gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Beair decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Simmons, up you get!
Simmons is breathing heavily.

Beair looks to land a combination but Simmons avoids it well.
Beair throws a head kick that misses.
Beair closes this distance looking for a takedown but Simmons circles away.

Simmons darts in and clinches Beair up against the cage.
Beair is trying to push Simmons away but Simmons has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Beair has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Simmons is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Beair ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Beair no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Simmons postures up in Beair's guard and throws a big left but Beair blocks it.

Beair has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Simmons can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Beair is on top in guard.

Simmons trying to keep a closed guard but Beair is proving a slippery customer.

Beair stands and throws Simmons's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Beair misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Simmons is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Beair is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Beair is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Simmons is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Beair is landing with some decent strikes but Simmons is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
