Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Banton (ranked 3628 p4p, 3873 weight class) and Mike Manson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thomas Banton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Manson! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Manson tries for a takedown but Banton circles away easily and Banton moves into the clinch. Manson is looking to take this one to the mat. Manson is trying to drag Banton to the mat but Banton just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Thomas Banton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Manson. Manson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Manson throws a big shot that misses. Manson keeps the fight on the outside. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Banton misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Banton throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Manson.
That's one minute gone in the round. A head kick misses from Manson. Banton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Manson tries to clinch but Banton is having none of it. Banton thinks about countering with a head kick. Banton fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Manson avoids it really well and circles away. Manson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Manson stands and throws Banton's legs to the side, diving into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Manson is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Manson trying to control the action but Banton is working from the bottom. Manson cracks Banton with an elbow. That is naaassty. Banton is trying to get back to half guard. Manson tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manson landing a few strikes. Banton tries to buck Manson off but Manson is having none of it. Manson prevents Banton from escaping the position. Banton struggling a bit here. Banton prevents Manson from moving into mount. Banton tries to improve position but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Manson wants to stand but Banton is controlling his arm. Manson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Banton's shoulder. That is not cool. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Banton is trying to get back to half guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Banton tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Manson swivels and escapes. Mike Manson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Banton is breathing heavily. Manson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Manson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Banton defends well and Manson ends up having to push Banton into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Banton half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Manson tries to keep at a distance but Banton has taken the fight into the clinch. Banton is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Manson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Banton looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Banton decides to pull guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Manson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Banton wants to stand but Manson is controlling the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mike Manson will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

That's one minute gone in the round. Manson controlling the position easily from mount. Manson landing strikes, looking to finish! Mike Manson has got the better of the ground game so far. Banton wants to try and get back to his feet. Manson controlling the pace for now. Banton taking shots to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Banton tries to hold on but Manson postures up. Manson working away from the top, dropping strikes. Banton really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Banton wants to control but Manson is having none of it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Manson dominating with strikes here. Manson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Banton hang on?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manson looking to secure an arm triangle but Banton defends it well. Manson controlling from mount. Manson working away from the top, dropping strikes. Manson has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Banton is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Manson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Banton is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Manson controlling the pace for now. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Manson connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Manson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round! Manson fails with a takedown attempt. Banton gets in close and instigates a clinch. Manson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Banton avoids it. Banton is pressed up against the cage. Manson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Banton down to the mat. Banton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Manson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Banton counters with a head kick. That will keep Manson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Banton shoots in for a takedown but Manson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. No luck for Manson with that takedown attempt. Thomas Banton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Manson.

Banton pulls guard. Banton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Manson manages to get himself to full guard.
Manson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Banton trying to stand up but can't free himself from Manson's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Manson is adopting a defensive guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Manson keeping moving, preventing Banton from controlling successfully. Banton is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Manson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Manson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Banton looking to sit in guard and control but Manson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Manson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Banton has a closed guard, preventing Manson from standing up. Manson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Banton working for a triangle but Manson defends it easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Manson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Manson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Banton tries to avoid it but Manson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Banton to the ground. Banton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Banton appears to be looking for a big counter.
And that's the end of the fight! Thomas Banton showed his dominance in that final round. I think Manson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
