PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ching Chong (ranked 2590 p4p, 3838 weight class) and Jordon Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chong has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ching Chong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jordon Porter!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Porter scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Chong is breathing heavily.
Porter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Porter seems to be working for a kimura but Chong defends the submission attempt.
Chong wants to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Porter seems content to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Porter seems to be looking for submissions.
Porter looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Porter working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Porter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Porter lands with a punch from half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Chong gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Porter to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Chong on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Chong tries to get out of the position.
Chong wants to hit a sweep here but Porter passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Chong there!
Chong keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Porter breaks from Chong's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Porter scoring with strikes but Chong is staying in there.
Porter has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Chong's face.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Porter cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Porter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chong is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jordon Porter dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Chong has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Chong there as he acknowledges the shot.
Porter throws a good cross that connects.

Porter shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Porter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Porter looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Chong with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Porter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chong is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Porter scores with a couple of nice shots.

Porter has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Chong defend it? Porter steps over the head and cranks it - Chong is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Porter!
