PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brooklin Rider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Delgado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juan Delgado will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brooklin Rider!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Juan Delgado!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rider shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rider punching from mount but Delgado doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Delgado wants to control but Rider is having none of it.
Rider throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Delgado because Rider loaded up on that one.
Rider throws some wild stikes that Delgado manages to avoid easily.
Delgado controls the position.
Delgado slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Rider seems to be working for a kimura but Delgado defends the submission attempt.
Delgado manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Delgado utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rider is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rider trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Delgado has his foot on Rider's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rider works his way back into a safe position though.
Delgado not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rider is looking to work some ground and pound but Delgado has wrist control.
Rider in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Rider throws a big right hand that misses.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Delgado stalks Rider and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rider's face. Rider staggers backwards, shaken.
Juan Delgado is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rider darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Delgado tries to get to full guard but Rider has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rider is looking to stall here but Delgado recovers full guard.

Rider drops back looking for a leg! Delgado is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Delgado manages to kick Rider off! Rider jumps back into Delgado's guard.
Rider throws and elbow that misses. Delgado uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rider's guard. Nice move by Delgado!

Rider working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Delgado doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Delgado manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rider is breathing heavily.

Delgado stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Delgado displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rider.
Delgado connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Rider has managed to clinch.
Delgado is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Delgado tries a body shot but Rider blocks it.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
A left hand lands to the body for Delgado.
Delgado tries to throw a body punch but Rider avoids it by throwing Delgado back against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Delgado.
Delgado lands a hook that snaps the head of Rider backwards.
Delgado scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Rider drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nice body punch from Delgado.
Delgado wants to stall.
Delgado struggles to land a body shot inside as Rider controls his hands.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brooklin Rider. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rider is working for takedown but Delgado is calmly controlling the position for now.
Delgado's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Rider is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Delgado gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Delgado dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Delgado throws a combination. Rider tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Rider takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Delgado dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Brooklin Rider seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Delgado lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Rider fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Delgado avoids it really well and circles away.
Rider tries to clinch but Delgado moves out of range.
Delgado swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Rider.
Delgado keeps the fight on the outside.
Delgado misses with a few strikes there.
Rider fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Delgado lands with a nice combination. Rider backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Brooklin Rider has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Delgado cracks a nice hook into Rider's ribs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jab, jab by Delgado - just one landing.
Delgado dips to his left and cracks Rider with an uppercut!
Delgado bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Rider's head backwards.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Delgado cracks Rider with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Delgado closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rider on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Delgado bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Delgado uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rider has time to react.
Rider walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Rider on the wrong end of a nice hook.


Rider is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Delgado lands a nice hook to Rider's body. Rider takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Delgado's corner calls for a 1-2. Delgado obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Delgado rushes Rider with punches - Rider moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Rider goes down! Delgado follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Juan Delgado!
