Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Malaki Zhang (ranked 3428 p4p, 2839 weight class) and James Smith (ranked 189 p4p, 167 weight class). Malaki Zhang could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to James Smith's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Malaki Zhang! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Smith! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zhang closes the distance and clinches. Zhang breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smith walks into a straight right hand from Zhang. Zhang lands with a shot to the body. Zhang thuds his right hand into Smith's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Smith tries for a takedown but Zhang circles away easily and Zhang counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Zhang lands a jab-cross combination.
It looks like James Smith has been cut. Smith takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smith has his takedown stuffed and Zhang counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Smith thinking. Zhang pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch. Zhang gets through Smith's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Zhang breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Donk. Zhang catches Smith right on the button with a cross. Smith shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zhang but Zhang pushes him off and we're back to square one. Malaki Zhang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Smith. Smith walks into a straight right hand from Zhang.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zhang scores with a jab. Zhang moves into the clinch successfully.

Smith tries for a takedown but Zhang circles away easily and Zhang counters with a lovely straight right hand! Smith takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Zhang's guard. Zhang wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Smith manages to pass to side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith wants to take a breather but Zhang is having none of it. Smith tries to stand and escape but Zhang is controlling the position. Zhang looks like he's trying to stand up.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zhang's head. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Smith working his ground and pound in the gym. Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Smith wants to stand but Zhang has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Smith prevents Zhang from improving his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith tries to stand but can't do so whilst Zhang controls his leg. Smith working over Zhang with some ground and pound. Zhang looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Smith lands a nice short elbow. Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith lands strikes from half guard. Smith slips a nice elbow through Zhang's hands, connecting with Zhang's forehead. Zhang is looking to improve his position.
Smith is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Smith sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Zhang knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground. Smith performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Smith prevents Zhang from improving his position. Smith lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Malaki Zhang dominated that round. The cut man is working on James Smith's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Smith has a takedown stuffed. Zhang connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Zhang is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Smith misses with a takedown attempt and Zhang counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Smith takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Zhang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Zhang is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight. Malaki Zhang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Smith. Zhang with a body punch. A glancing blow. Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown and Zhang counters with a series of strikes. Smith will be more careful next time no doubt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zhang catches Smith with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Zhang pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Smith back to the cage. Zhang follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Smith shoots and misses and Zhang cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Zhang connects with a looping right hand.

Smith is rocked! Zhang looks to land a combination. Smith sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Zhang counters with a series of strikes. Smith will be more careful next time no doubt. Smith is still on wobbly legs! Can Zhang finish him? James Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zhang's waist but Zhang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side. Smith seems to have recovered his senses. Malaki Zhang is winning the standup battle so far. Zhang digs a good hook to Smith's body.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zhang as he avoids it easily. Zhang went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Smith is breathing heavily. Zhang throws a one two combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smith misses with a takedown and Zhang connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Zhang has knocked Smith down with a huge combo! Zhang steps away and waves a wobbly Smith back to his feet! This one might not go much longer! Smith shoots and misses and Zhang counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Smith! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!
