PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Rocha (ranked 2352 p4p, 24154 weight class) and Nathan Rook (ranked 213 p4p, 383 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jorge Rocha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nathan Rook!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rook lands a head shot.
Rook looks to throw the jab but Rocha is out of range.
Rook throws a series of punches but Rocha moves out of range.
Rocha is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Rook.
Rocha slips a jab and a cross from Rook.
Rocha wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Rook swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rook scores with the left hand. Rocha knows he should have avoided that one.
Rook jabs Rocha to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Rook missing with a left hand there. Rocha was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rook misses with a two punch combination.
Rook throws a left and a right that both miss

and Rocha decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rook's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rook is pulling down on Rocha's head. It's preventing any offense from Rocha, at least for the moment.
Let's hope that Rook has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rocha stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rook swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rook looking to control.
Rook wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rocha pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rook is keeping the position for now.
Rook trying to keep a closed guard but Rocha is proving a slippery customer.
Rocha trying to control the position from guard on top but Rook is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rook misses the shot to the body.
Rocha changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Rook just misses with a punch to the body.
Rook misses the body punch

and Rocha moves into the clinch.
Rook swings wildly with an uppercut but Rocha uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rocha is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rook is defending well for now.
Rook tries to work over Rocha's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Rook on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rook gets through Rocha's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Rook tries a body shot but Rocha blocks it.
Rocha tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rook avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rocha manages to pull guard.
Rocha seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Rook postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rocha is looking for a triangle but Rook pushes his legs off easily.

Rocha has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rook can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rook loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rook is working Rocha over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rocha utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rook postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rocha is looking to cinch up a triangle. Rook throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rocha's body to avoid the submission. Rocha has instead reached around Rook's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rocha arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jorge Rocha!
Jorge Rocha decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
