Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nirmal Singh (ranked 1974 p4p, 3532 weight class) and Kenny Mason (ranked 192 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nirmal Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenny Mason!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Singh tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mason paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Mason tries to keep at a distance but Singh has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mason is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Mason is leaning against Singh and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Singh misses with a hook to the ribs.

Mason pulls Singh into guard.
Singh would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mason is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Singh tries to clinch up but Mason circles away and keeps his distance.
Singh looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Mason shoots in and bounces Singh off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mason makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Singh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mason advances nicely into full mount.

Singh wants to hold on but Mason pushes him away.
Singh is bucking up trying to escape but Mason cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Singh bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mason is looking to sweep but instead, Singh has passed into half guard.

Mason is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well, if Singh is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Singh is looking for a kimura but Mason is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Singh to get the leverage.

Horrible takedown attempt by Mason or perhaps it was just good defense by Singh, which made it look bad.

Singh rushes Mason and presses him up against the cage.
Singh has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mason is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mason is trying to pull guard but Singh turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

My spies in Cozad MMA Tokyo inform me that Mason has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Singh tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mason swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Singh goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Mason wants to counter with a clinch but Singh pushes him away.

Mason forces Singh back against the cage and clinches.
Singh tries for a takedown but Mason manages to get underhooks.
Mason tries to pull guard but Singh won't allow it.

Singh pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
No joy there for Singh, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mason unleashes a big counter combination but Singh bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Singh closes the distance looking to clinch
and Mason counters with a three punch combo that has Singh backing up. Singh nods at Mason to acknowledge the strikes.

Mason throws a series of strikes that have Singh backpedaling.

Mason manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Singh on his heels. He'll look to pass Singh's guard now, I'm sure.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mason wanted to stand there but Singh had control of the position.

Mason looking to sit in guard and control but Singh gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Singh has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mason holds on and takes a little breather.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kenny Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

A looping hook to the body misses from Mason. Singh does a little dance to reset his feet.
Singh fails to land with a series of punches.
Mason throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Singh's waist but Singh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mason off to one side.
Mason avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mason shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Singh sprawls well. Singh wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mason gets slowly back to his feet.

Singh lands a left and a right that send Mason crashing to the mat, dazed. Singh thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Mason is rocked!
Mason takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Singh drives through and clinches with Mason against the cage.
Mason is still on wobbly legs! Can Singh finish him?
Mason tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Singh smiles and moves away.

Singh gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Singh tightens his grip and picks Mason up, before dumping him to the ground. Mason manages to land in guard.
Mason seems to have recovered his senses.

Mason is looking for a triangle but Singh pushes his legs off easily.

Singh drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mason looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mason looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mason!

Mason lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Singh down.
Singh can't do much from the bottom here.

Mason is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Singh is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Singh on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Singh tries to get out of the position.

Singh sneaks back into half guard.

Mason is trying to work for a kimura but Singh is defending well.
Mason seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Singh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Singh is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mason accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Singh has his foot on Mason's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mason works his way back into a safe position though.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Singh is on top in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mason bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Singh's guard.
