PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joe Frazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kugi Joroinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Joe Frazier has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Frazier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kugi Joroinen!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frazier misses with a takedown attempt - Joroinen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Frazier rushes Joroinen and presses him up against the cage.

Frazier has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Joroinen clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Joroinen turns into Frazier and is now in his guard.

Joroinen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Joroinen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Frazier wants to sweep but no luck.

Joroinen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Frazier is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Joroinen, into his guard.

Frazier passes Joroinen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joroinen is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Frazier pulls his head out easily.

Frazier postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Joroinen to stand up.

Frazier shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Frazier fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Frazier. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Frazier misses with a head kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Joroinen has his takedown stuffed

and Frazier counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Joroinen looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Frazier is trying to control the action in half guard but Joroinen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Frazier wants to stand but Joroinen has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Joroinen is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Frazier pulls his head out easily.
Joroinen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Joroinen looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Frazier takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Joroinen actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Frazier prevents Joroinen from improving his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Frazier misses with a takedown

and Joroinen counters with a single leg into guard. Frazier didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Frazier dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Frazier is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Joroinen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Joroinen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Frazier manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Joroinen has Frazier in his guard.

Joroinen has his foot on Frazier's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Frazier works his way back into a safe position though.

Joroinen had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Frazier is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Joroinen Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Frazier's back instead.

Joroinen is persistently looking for the submission but Frazier is defending it well.

Joroinen has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Joroinen has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Frazier has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Frazier really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Joroinen looking for the choke but no joy.
Frazier tries to escape the position.

Frazier is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Joroinen gets his way!
