Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Richie Alaska (ranked 707 p4p, 1648 weight class) and Manuel Silva (ranked 90 p4p, 209 weight class). Alaska comes to the cage accompanied by A Long December - Counting Crows. Manuel Silva has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Richie Alaska! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manuel Silva! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alaska throws a looping overhand right but Silva ducks down to avoid it. Silva tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Alaska throws a big shot that misses. Alaska jabbing away but nothing is landing. Silva slips under a jab from Alaska. Silva slips a straight right by Alaska. Alaska throws a hook but Silva avoids it easily. Alaska misses with a straight left. Silva feints the counter takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Silva ducks right into an uppercut from Alaska. Silva steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Alaska. Alaska connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alaska clobbers Silva with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Alaska looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. The crowd cheers as Alaska lands an impressive looking overhand right. Silva doesn't seem phased though. Alaska swings for the body but Silva moves out of range.
Silva tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Alaska misses with a left hand and Silva counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Alaska working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Alaska looking for a sweep. Not yet Alaska, not yet. Silva being controlled here momentarily. Alaska working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Silva. Silva with a flurry of punches that miss. Alaska keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass. Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alaska is pulling down on Silva's head to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silva postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alaska working for a triangle but Silva defends it easily.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Silva working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Silva connects with a couple of short punches. Alaska working for a triangle but Silva defends it easily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Alaska has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Silva can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Alaska wants to sweep here but Silva controlling him for the moment.

Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Silva's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Silva throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Alaska working a defensive guard here.
Alaska avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Silva postures up and lands a big shot to Alaska's brow. Silva cracks Alaska with a solid left hand. Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alaska swivels though and keeps the full guard. Alaska bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard. Alaska trying to control but Silva is working from the bottom. Silva controlling Alaska's posture.

Alaska wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving. Alaska stopping the sweep attempt from Silva. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Richie Alaska dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Alaska ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Silva moves away. And Silva tries to counter it with a takedown but Alaska pushes his down on his head and steps out. Alaska looks to land a left hand but Silva moved out of range nicely. Silva drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Alaska defends it well. Silva blocks a jab. Silva is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Silva takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Silva gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Alaska. A jab from Alaska misses. Silva drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Alaska defends it well. Alaska misses with a looping left. Silva is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alaska throws out a loose jab but Silva uses good head movement to avoid it. Silva moves out of range as Alaska strikes. Silva tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Alaska is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Silva uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Alaska. Silva with the counter takedown but Alaska avoids it easily. Richie Alaska is winning the standup battle so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alaska lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Alaska throws a hook but Silva blocks it. Alaska dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Silva slips under a jab. Richie Alaska seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice defenses there by Silva. Alaska lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Silva at a distance.
Alaska misses with an uppercut. Silva saw that one coming. A left lands for Alaska. Silva on the wrong end of a nice jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alaska swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Silva. Silva blocks a jab. A jab from Alaska misses. A looping hook to the body misses from Alaska. Silva does a little dance to reset his feet. Silva uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Alaska. Alaska tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Silva was well out of range. Poor timing from Alaska. Silva drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Alaska defends it well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Alaska getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Alaska misses with a straight right. Alaska throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Silva decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alaska's guard. Silva landing with the ground and pound. Alaska looking for a sweep. Not yet Alaska, not yet. Silva lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Alaska is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Silva can do to turn this around? Silva cracks Alaska with a solid left hand. Silva keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Alaska's head. Silva is working Alaska over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Silva distracts Alaska with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Silva postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Alaska looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Silva lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Alaska is rocked! Silva with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Oh Alaska is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Silva postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Alaska covers up, he's hurt! Silva keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Silva and the ref steps in to end the fight! Silva can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
