PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Huug Schlepper (ranked 537 p4p, 4734 weight class) and Ryan Wallaby (ranked 72 p4p, 475 weight class). Schlepper comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - Highway to Hell. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Huug Schlepper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Wallaby!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Ron Honeybunn and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Wallaby as Schlepper shoots in.
Wallaby moves in looking to clinch but Schlepper pushes him off.
Schlepper shoots in looking for a takedown. Wallaby tries to sprawl out of it but Schlepper keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wallaby manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Schlepper darts in looking for a takedown but Wallaby gets double underhooks and turns Schlepper into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Huug Schlepper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A short body shot lands from Wallaby as the two fighters clinch.

Wallaby pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

I was talking to Schlepper's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Schlepper is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Wallaby not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Schlepper is stalling in the full guard.
Schlepper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Schlepper has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schlepper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wallaby swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wallaby can do anything to dispel that myth.
Schlepper's corner is telling him to maintain position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Wallaby shoots in for a takedown but Schlepper shows good takedown defense.
Wallaby fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Schlepper closes the distance and clinches up with Wallaby, looking for a takedown. Schlepper pushes Wallaby against the cage but Wallaby circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Wallaby connects with a body shot that sends Schlepper's belly button to the back.

Wallaby scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
It looks like Wallaby is going to stand back up.
Schlepper is looking to escape.
Wallaby has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at New York Public Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Schlepper tries to roll over but Wallaby keeps him under control.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Schlepper is on top in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Schlepper is stalling in the full guard.
Wallaby looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schlepper is one step ahead there.
Schlepper wants to pass the guard but Wallaby is keeping the position.
Wallaby is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Schlepper stands and throws Wallaby's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wallaby gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Wallaby gets back to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Wallaby pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Schlepper tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wallaby sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Schlepper somewhat.

Huug Schlepper overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Schlepper slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Schlepper tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Schlepper has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Wallaby looks to move to half guard but instead Schlepper has passed into mount! Damn!

Schlepper looking to control and managing it successfully.
Schlepper will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Schlepper is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Wallaby can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Wallaby is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Schlepper takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Schlepper seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wallaby for as long as he can get away with.
Wallaby tries to hold on but Schlepper postures up.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Schlepper.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Wallaby misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Schlepper seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Huug Schlepper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Wallaby.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schlepper continues to hold on tight.
Schlepper's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Schlepper has isolated one of Wallaby's arms. Wallaby looking to fight him off but Schlepper twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Huug Schlepper!
A very excited looking Huug Schlepper rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
