PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 22993 p4p, 23213 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 70 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 59 - 50 - 13, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Libat shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sapi as he jumps to the side.
Sapi replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Libat blocks it well.
Sapi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Libat tries to avoid it but Sapi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Libat to the ground. Libat escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sapi or perhaps it was just good defense by Libat, which made it look bad.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat shoots in looking for a takedown but Sapi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Libat's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sapi feints a counter leg kick.

Libat throws a quick counter kick to the body but Sapi avoids it.
Higanti Libat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

Sapi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Libat's guard.

Libat has Sapi pulled in close to control his posture.
Sapi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Libat can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sapi controls the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Libat trying to keep a closed guard but Sapi is proving a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Libat fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Libat shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl out of it but Libat keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Higanti Libat will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Libat throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Libat is in Sapi's guard.
Sapi has his hands on Libat's head, controlling the position.

Let's hope that Sapi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Libat shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sapi as he avoids it easily.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Higanti Libat. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sapi.
Libat can't do much from the bottom here.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi takes a little break here. Libat wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Higanti Libat will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Libat throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sapi was covering up waiting for the punch and Libat finishes the takedown easily into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sapi holds on and takes a little breather.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sapi wants to stand but Libat is controlling the position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Libat controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Libat fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sapi counters with a body kick.

and Sapi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Libat won't be happy with that.
Sapi wants to control but Libat is keeping him busy.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Libat is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sapi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wala Sapi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Higanti Libat is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sapi explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Libat has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
