PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Doro Jester (ranked 1927 p4p, 2004 weight class) and Hulk Smash (ranked 215 p4p, 229 weight class). The key to victory for Doro Jester has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Doro Jester!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Hulk Smash!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Richard Clark and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smash looks to land a right hand but Jester moved out of range.

Smash shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Jester napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smash looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Jester manages to work his way to half guard, despite Smash's best efforts.
Still in half guard, Smash seems content to control.
Jester trying to hold on to Smash's head to control him but Smash postures up.
Smash looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jester with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smash takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Smash has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jester is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smash scores with a couple of nice shots.
Smash is keen to just control but Jester is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jester slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Smash stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jester swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jester is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jester seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Jester escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smash gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jester is trying to control the position but Smash postures up.
Smash postures up and lands a big shot to Jester's brow.

Jester wants to sweep but no luck.

Jester is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Smash is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Smash is working Jester over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Smash passes Jester's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Smash is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Smash lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smash has the hooks in. Jester is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Jester turns into Smash and is now in his guard.

Jester will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smash is looking to stand up but Jester isn't so interested in that idea.

Jester won't allow Smash to sweep him here.
Jester stands and throws Smash's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Hulk Smash has got the better of the ground game so far.
What's Smash going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

Smash shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jester's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Doro Jester will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Smash throws a shot from downtown. Jester moves away and avoids it.
Smash slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Smash avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smash is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Jester dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Smash feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smash connects with a nice short shot to Jester's temple.

Jester is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smash pulls his head out easily.
Smash working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Smash seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Smash lands a nice short elbow.

Smash can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jester is looking to escape.

Hulk Smash comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Smash has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
