Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Shappens (ranked 24677 p4p, 5248 weight class) and Jake Ryans (ranked 520 p4p, 466 weight class). Rich Shappens has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Shappens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Ryans! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shappens looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Ryans! Shappens tries to advance to mount but Ryans denies him. Ryans manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Ryans stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Shappens to get to his feet. Ryans connects with an inside leg kick. Shappens looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ryans is controlling Shappens's posture. Ryans avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Ryans lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Ryans controlling from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ryans preventing the sweep. Ryans is looking to stand up but Shappens won't let him. Shappens is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ryans defends well. Shappens trying to keep a closed guard but Ryans is proving a slippery customer.
Ryans sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Shappens's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ryans takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Shappens wants to improve his position but Ryans is controlling well.
Ryans performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Shappens taking some punishment here, with Ryans in his half guard. Shappens is not content to let Ryans control the position. Shappens slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shappens is trying to control the position but Ryans postures up. Ryans controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. It looks like Ryans might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Shappens tries to clinch up but Ryans circles away and keeps his distance. Ryans gets caught napping as Shappens dives in and scores a takedown. Ryans manages to retain guard. Shappens wants to control from the top but Ryans keeps moving. Ryans looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Ryans looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryans keeping moving, preventing Shappens from controlling successfully. Ryans working a defensive guard here.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Shappens wants to get up but he can't break Ryans's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Ryans working a defensive guard here.

Jake Ryans dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Shappens shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ryans defends it nicely. Ryans wants to counter the offense by Shappens and move into the clinch position. Ryans shoots in for a takedown but Shappens shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Rich Shappens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ryans scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Ryans advances to full mount. Ryans trying to control but Shappens is having none of it. Jake Ryans has got the better of the ground game so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ryans looking to finish Shappens with some ground and pound. This is bad for Shappens!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ryans moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Shappens has worked his arm free - good work by Shappens!
Shappens prevents Ryans from improving position. Ryans tries for a kimura but Shappens is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ryans is looking to take a break and control but Shappens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ryans decides to stand up, so the ref orders Shappens to his feet. Shappens looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Ryans gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ryans tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Shappens avoids it. Ryans trying to stall but Shappens improves his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ryans tries to pull guard but Shappens won't allow it.

Ryans jumps guard but Shappens turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Rich Shappens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Ryans. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Ryans tries to break free but Shappens pushes him back against the cage. Ryans ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ryans no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Ryans has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ryans is breathing heavily. Shappens postures up in Ryans's guard and throws a big left but Ryans blocks it. Shappens has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Shappens trying to control but Ryans is working from the bottom. Shappens wants to get up but he can't break Ryans's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Shappens won't allow Ryans to sweep him here. Ryans is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Shappens stands up from guard. Let's bang!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryans tries to close the distance and clinch but Shappens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rich Shappens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Shappens misses with a takedown attempt - Ryans sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ryans is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Shappens scores with a punch to the head. Shappens has Ryans up against the cage in a clinch.

Shappens works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shappens has hold of one of Ryans's legs. Ryans is fighting the takedown attempt but Shappens gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ryans trying to keep a closed guard but Shappens is proving a slippery customer.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rich Shappens will probably get the nod. That's time! Shappens's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Shappens shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ryans is trying to defend but Shappens finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Shappens is keen to just control but Ryans is a slippery customer. Ryans is trying to control but can't.
Shappens stands up out of the half guard. Ryans gets caught napping as Shappens dives in and scores a takedown. Ryans manages to retain guard. Shappens decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Shappens closes the distance and clinches. Shappens breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ryans gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ryans has his feet on Shappens's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Ryans takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Shappens fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ryans, pushing him back against the cage. Ryans can't get the takedown.
Shappens successfully pulls guard.
Ryans wants to control from the top but Shappens keeps moving. Shappens manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ryans manages to get himself to full guard.
Shappens cracks Ryans with a solid left hand. Shappens knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ryans on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shappens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Shappens loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Shappens stopping the sweep attempt from Ryans. Shappens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Ryans working for a triangle but Shappens defends it easily.
Shappens decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ryans, up you get! Shappens shoots in but no luck this time. Shappens throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Ryans crashing down! Ryans tries to stagger back to his feet but Shappens just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Ryans asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rich Shappens!
