PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Goldberg (ranked 4598 p4p, 4073 weight class) and Dubba Sub (ranked 478 p4p, 450 weight class). Sub has chosen Live It Up! as his entrance music. Sam Goldberg has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sam Goldberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dubba Sub!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sub manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Goldberg on his heels. He'll look to pass Goldberg's guard now, I'm sure.

Goldberg is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sub is aware though and is defending well.
Sub sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Goldberg might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Goldberg is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sub's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sub tries to free his leg and advance position but Goldberg is retaining full guard.
Goldberg could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sub drops back looking for a leg! Goldberg is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Goldberg manages to kick Sub off! Sub jumps back into Goldberg's guard.

Goldberg is looking for a triangle but Sub pushes his legs off easily.

Sub engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Goldberg shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Goldberg showed some decent athleticism there.
Goldberg is keen to just control but Sub is a slippery customer.

The fighters are battling for position here. Sub manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Goldberg has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sub escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goldberg gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sub tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Sub keeping moving, preventing Goldberg from controlling successfully.

Sub looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Goldberg passes into half guard.
Goldberg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sub does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Sub wants to get back to full guard but Goldberg has passed into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sub is trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Sub's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Goldberg is trying to get an arm triangle but Sub is defending well.
Sub struggling a bit here.
Goldberg trying to control the action but Sub is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sub is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Goldberg's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dubba Sub will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Goldberg misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sub wants to counter with a clinch but Goldberg pushes him away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Goldberg enables Sub to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Goldberg manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Sub trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sub looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sub drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sub jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sub content to stall in guard here.

Sub wants to stand but Goldberg has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Sub closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sub lands in his opponent's guard.

Goldberg is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sub is controlling him.
Sub slips nicely into half guard.
Sub has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sub keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Sub is trying to control the action in half guard but Goldberg is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Sub decides to return to a standing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Goldberg closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sub keeping control of the position.
Goldberg prevents Sub from improving his position.

Goldberg looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sub is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Goldberg is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sub has managed to free his arm - good work.
Sub makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sub.
Goldberg tries to free his leg and advance position but Sub is retaining full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sub is controlling Goldberg's posture.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dubba Sub showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Sub closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Goldberg's guard.
Sub trying to control but Goldberg is working from the bottom.

Sub gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Goldberg drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sub pulls Goldberg in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goldberg advances position into side control!

Goldberg lands a decent elbow from side control.

Goldberg is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sub knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sub wants to control but Goldberg postures up.
Sub is not content to let Goldberg control the position.
Goldberg throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Sub works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sub has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Goldberg is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Sub manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Goldberg stops Sub from standing up.
Dubba Sub has got the better of the ground game so far.
Goldberg in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Goldberg drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sub looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sub looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sub!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sub stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Sub dives in and scores a takedown into Goldberg's guard.

Goldberg throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sub uses it to pass to side control.

Sub working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Sub decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sub shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sub was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sub is working to tighten his grip on Goldberg's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Goldberg has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Sub is really squeezing tight and eventually Goldberg passes out! Sub breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Dubba Sub!
Dubba Sub spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
