PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pan Thongrak (ranked 3482 p4p, 4715 weight class) and Desmodium Denari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thongrak comes into the arena with Muay Thai Traditional blaring out of the sound system. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pan Thongrak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Desmodium Denari!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Denari misses with a takedown
and Thongrak counters with a right hand to the body.

Thongrak tries to keep at a distance but Denari has taken the fight into the clinch.
Thongrak tries to circle away but Denari has him pinned against the cage.
Denari misses with a punch to the body.
Thongrak is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Denari has a couple of punches blocked by Thongrak.

Thongrak breaks the clinch.
Thongrak definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Denari fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Denari throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Thongrak counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Thongrak cracks a nice hook into Denari's ribs.
Thongrak turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Denari has his takedown stuffed
and Thongrak connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Pan Thongrak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Desmodium Denari.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Denari tries for a takedown but Thongrak circles away easily
and Thongrak makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Denari shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Thongrak as he avoids it easily.
Thongrak rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Denari moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Denari clinches.
Thongrak is trying to break the clinch but Denari is controlling him.
Thongrak cracks Denari with a nice body shot.
Denari tries a body shot but Thongrak blocks it.
Thongrak misses with a body punch.
Denari misses with a punch on the inside.
Thongrak prevents a body shot from Denari.
Thongrak blocking some punches.

Denari jumps guard and drags Thongrak to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Thongrak wants to control from the top but Denari keeps moving.

Denari has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thongrak can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thongrak trying to control the position from guard on top but Denari is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Denari looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Denari manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Thongrak manages to get himself to full guard.

Denari trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Denari stands and throws Thongrak's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Thongrak on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Thongrak tries to get out of the position.

Denari wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thongrak, who protects the arm well.

Denari goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Thongrak has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Denari but great work by Thongrak.
Denari being controlled for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thongrak trying to control the action but Denari is working from the bottom.
Denari tries to improve position but can't.
Thongrak trying to control the position but Denari is working away.
Denari is looking for a sweep.
Denari manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Denari tries to get to full guard but Thongrak has control of the leg.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Denari trying to control but Thongrak postures up.
Denari is looking for a sweep. Thongrak is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Denari looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Denari wants to get back to full guard.
Thongrak looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Denari wants to improve his position but Thongrak is controlling well.
Thongrak is keen to just control but Denari is a slippery customer.
Denari manages to get to full guard.
Thongrak is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pan Thongrak will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Denari shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Thongrak counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Thongrak throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
A nice leg kick from Thongrak, right into the meat of the thigh.
Denari shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Thongrak is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Denari can do to turn this around?

and Thongrak counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Desmodium Denari has been cut.
Pan Thongrak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Desmodium Denari.
Denari shoots in looking for a takedown. Thongrak tries to sprawl out of it but Denari keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Thongrak manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Denari wants to clinch
and Thongrak counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Thongrak throws a head kick but Denari moves out of range.
Denari takes a jab right on the kisser.
Thongrak drops Denari with a naaaaasty hook - Denari is in real trouble here! Thongrak dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pan Thongrak!
A relieved looking Pan Thongrak thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
