Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Keith Rockefeller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Charles Flute Habibi Dei! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Habibi Dei closes the distance and clinches. Habibi Dei lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Habibi Dei content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Habibi Dei stalling the fight.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Habibi Dei unloads a knee to the mid-section. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Habibi Dei is stalling here.
Habibi Dei is trying to pull guard but Rockefeller turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Habibi Dei changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rockefeller fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Habibi Dei tries to close the distance and clinch but Rockefeller swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Habibi Dei lands with a nice body punch. The fighters circling - Rockefeller throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Rockefeller throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Habibi Dei looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
John Keith Rockefeller is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. The crowd cheers as Rockefeller lands an impressive looking overhand right. Habibi Dei doesn't seem phased though. Rockefeller slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Habibi Dei takes one to the side of the head.
Habibi Dei walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Rockefeller pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Rockefeller stalks Habibi Dei and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Habibi Dei's face. Habibi Dei staggers backwards, shaken.
It looks like Charles Flute Habibi Dei has been cut. John Keith Rockefeller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Habibi Dei shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rockefeller but Rockefeller pushes him off and we're back to square one. John Keith Rockefeller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles Flute Habibi Dei. A jab from Rockefeller misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Habibi Dei on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Rockefeller closes the distance and lands a one-two. Habibi Dei drives through and clinches with Rockefeller against the cage.
Habibi Dei has Rockefeller pushed against the cage. Rockefeller has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Rockefeller is trying to break free. Rockefeller wants to break the clinch but can't.
Come on Habibi Dei - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Habibi Dei is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rockefeller stops a takedown attempt from Habibi Dei.
Habibi Dei has Rockefeller pressed against the cage.
Habibi Dei effectively controlling the action here. Rockefeller looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. A right hand to the body from Habibi Dei.
Rockefeller tries to circle away but Habibi Dei has him pinned against the cage. Habibi Dei escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Habibi Dei fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rockefeller waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Habibi Dei. Habibi Dei wants to clinch and Rockefeller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Habibi Dei misses with a takedown attempt - Rockefeller sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Rockefeller throws a looping overhand right but Habibi Dei ducks down to avoid it. And Habibi Dei tries to counter it with a takedown but Rockefeller pushes his down on his head and steps out. Rockefeller scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Rockefeller scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Habibi Dei moves out of range as Rockefeller strikes. Habibi Dei ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Rockefeller lands with a cross. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rockefeller is pawing at Habibi Dei, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Habibi Dei's nose. Habibi Dei is badly hurt! Rockefeller pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Habibi Dei tries desperately to hold on but Rockefeller is relentless in his assault! As Habibi Dei receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Rockefeller away and this one is in the books!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Keith Rockefeller!
