PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mason Kerr (ranked 4050 p4p, 4049 weight class) and Magnus Coffey (ranked 430 p4p, 429 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mason Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Magnus Coffey!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coffey defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kerr.
Kerr fails with a takedown attempt.
Coffey shoots in for a takedown but Kerr shows good takedown defense.
Coffey shoots in looking for a takedown. Kerr tries to sprawl out of it but Coffey keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kerr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Coffey shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kerr defends it nicely.
Mason Kerr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Magnus Coffey.

Kerr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Kerr wants to control but Coffey is keeping him busy.

Kerr tries for a kimura but Coffey is defending well.
Coffey is looking for a sweep.
Kerr trying to control the position but Coffey is working away.

Kerr working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kerr looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Kerr tries to move into full mount but can't pass Coffey's legs.
Kerr working away.
Kerr tries to advance to mount but Coffey denies him.
Coffey wants to control but Kerr postures up.
Coffey should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Coffey tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kerr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kerr throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Coffey is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kerr off and has taken his back!
Kerr tries to escape but Coffey has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Coffey looking to hold on to the position here but Kerr rolls and ends up regaining guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Coffey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Coffey trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kerr will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Coffey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Coffey fails with an attempt to clinch.
Coffey throws a sloppy head kick and Kerr moves out of range easily.
Coffey fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kerr avoids it really well and circles away.
Coffey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kerr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kerr feinted with a counter takedown.
Coffey looks winded!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Coffey gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Kerr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Coffey's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Kerr stuffs the takedown.

Kerr dives in and scores a takedown into Coffey's guard.

Coffey has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Kerr has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Coffey is trying to pull guard but Kerr has him pressed against the cage.
Coffey tries to circle away but Kerr has him pinned against the cage.
Kerr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Coffey fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Coffey shoots for a double leg takedown but Kerr sprawls well. He's pushed Coffey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kerr appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Mason Kerr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Magnus Coffey.
Coffey doesn't manage to clinch there - Kerr circles away.
Magnus Coffey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kerr tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Coffey defends well and Kerr ends up having to push Coffey into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Coffey jumps guard but Kerr turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Coffey tries to pull guard but Kerr won't allow it.
Coffey is breathing heavily.

Kerr advances position into side control!
Coffey is trying to control Kerr's posture but Kerr avoids it.

Kerr tries for a kimura but Coffey is defending well.

Kerr is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Coffey has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kerr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coffey keeps working.
Coffey really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kerr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Coffey tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kerr tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Kerr is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Coffey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Coffey is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kerr is controlling him well.

Coffey takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Kerr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Coffey keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coffey is trying to get back to half guard.
Coffey tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Kerr is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Coffey can do to turn this around?

Kerr has control of Coffey's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Coffey regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Kerr avoids the attempt from Coffey to control.

Kerr working the ground and pound effectively.
Coffey tries to reverse the position but Kerr maintains control.
Kerr lands a big elbow.
Mason Kerr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Coffey slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Coffey makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Coffey.
Kerr works a leg free and moves into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Kerr dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Coffey forces Kerr back against the cage and clinches.
Kerr jumps guard but Coffey turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Kerr has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Coffey is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Coffey stalling in the clinch but Kerr improves position.
Coffey tries to pull guard but Kerr won't allow it.

Kerr breaks from the clinch.
Coffey shoots in for a double leg but Kerr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kerr half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Coffey shoots in looking for a takedown. Kerr tries to sprawl out of it but Coffey keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kerr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mason Kerr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Magnus Coffey.

Kerr closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Coffey to the mat! Coffey manages to get full guard.
Kerr trying to control the position from guard on top but Coffey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kerr forces his way into half guard.

Kerr is trying to work for a kimura but Coffey is defending well.
Coffey wants to improve his position but Kerr is controlling well.

Coffey wants to control but Kerr passes into side.

Kerr tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

An elbow from Kerr crashes against the mat.
Kerr advances to full mount.
Kerr is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Coffey tries to hold on but Kerr postures up.
Coffey tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kerr controlling his opponent.

Kerr has hold of Coffey's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Coffey manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kerr fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Kerr is looking to take Coffey's back but instead Coffey gets back to half guard. Nice work.

Kerr is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Still in half guard, Kerr seems content to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mason Kerr showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kerr, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
