Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Smedt Van Kampen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nikolai Petrov! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Petrov throws a leg kick and Van Kampen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Van Kampen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Van Kampen trying to control but Petrov is working from the bottom. Van Kampen drops back looking for a leg! Petrov is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Petrov manages to kick Van Kampen off! Van Kampen jumps back into Petrov's guard. Van Kampen sitting in guard here, content to control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Van Kampen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petrov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Van Kampen controls the pace. Van Kampen advances to half guard. Van Kampen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Petrov is just riding it out for now. Van Kampen eventually gives up the hold. Van Kampen trying to control the action but Petrov is working from the bottom. Van Kampen sitting and controlling from the half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Van Kampen seems to be working for a kimura but Petrov defends the submission attempt. Van Kampen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Petrov is just riding it out for now. Van Kampen eventually gives up the hold. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Van Kampen wants to take a breather but Petrov is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Van Kampen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Van Kampen is looking for a kimura but Petrov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Van Kampen to get the leverage. Van Kampen stalling. Petrov trying to control here.
Van Kampen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Petrov keeps working. We've been informed that Petrov has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Van Kampen has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Petrov defend it? Van Kampen steps over the head and cranks it - Petrov is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Van Kampen!
