The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Sosuke Kotani.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Birdwhistle tries to clinch up.
Carter feints the counter takedown.
Birdwhistle wants to clinch up but Carter keeps it at a distance.
Birdwhistle fails with an attempt to clinch.

Birdwhistle rushes Carter and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Birdwhistle tries to lock up and control but Carter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Carter is looking to work his way around to Birdwhistle's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Birdwhistle holds of for dear life.
Carter wants to take Birdwhistle's back but he can't do it this time.
Birdwhistle has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Carter struggling to keep hold of the position.
Carter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Birdwhistle haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Carter controlling well, preventing Birdwhistle from escaping the position.
Carter is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Birdwhistle defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
