This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Rory Birdwhistle! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Tommy Carter! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Sosuke Kotani.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Birdwhistle tries to clinch up. Carter feints the counter takedown. Birdwhistle wants to clinch up but Carter keeps it at a distance. Birdwhistle fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carter is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Birdwhistle rushes Carter and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch. Carter gets a trip takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Birdwhistle (0) vs (2) Carter Carter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Birdwhistle tries to get to full guard but Carter has control of the leg. Birdwhistle is refusing to be controlled, as Carter sits in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carter seems to be working for a kimura but Birdwhistle defends the submission attempt. Carter passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Birdwhistle! Score +3 for passing guard: Birdwhistle (0) vs (5) Carter
That's one minute gone in the round. Birdwhistle is wriggling around trying to escape.
Birdwhistle tries to lock up and control but Carter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Carter is looking to work his way around to Birdwhistle's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Birdwhistle holds of for dear life. Carter wants to take Birdwhistle's back but he can't do it this time. Birdwhistle has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Carter struggling to keep hold of the position.
Carter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Birdwhistle haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Carter controlling well, preventing Birdwhistle from escaping the position.
Carter is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Birdwhistle defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Carter looking for the choke but no joy. Birdwhistle trying to control the hands but Carter breaks the grip.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carter keeps control of the position as Birdwhistle tries to break free.
Birdwhistle is trying to roll into a better position but Carter has get a rear naked choke and Birdwhistle is forced to tap out! This one is allllll over!
