PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nicolas Rommels (ranked 3877 p4p, 3874 weight class) and Frederico Mora (ranked 326 p4p, 320 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nicolas Rommels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frederico Mora!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mora lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Mora throws a series of punches but Rommels avoids them all with ease.
Rommels walks into a left hand.
Mora looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rommels tries to counter by clinching up but Mora breaks away and moves out of range.
Mora will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rommels appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Mora looks to land a combination but Rommels avoids it well.
Mora misses with a double jab.
Rommels looks to score with a jab to the body but Mora is just out of range.
Mora throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rommels fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mora swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Rommels counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mora throws a combination. Rommels tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mora enables Rommels to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mora manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mora looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mora escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rommels gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rommels controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Rommels really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mora is working an open guard so Rommels takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Mora catches Rommels with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Mora looks to land a combination but Rommels avoids it well.
Mora connects with a body shot that sends Rommels's belly button to the back.

Some wild striking there from Mora.
Frederico Mora seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mora shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Rommels eats them both and turns towards Mora to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Mora misses with a wild combination.
Mora misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mora throws a nice looking combination but Rommels bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Rommels throws a half hearted mid kick.
Mora stalks Rommels and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rommels's face. Rommels staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mora lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rommels backs up against the cage.
Sloppy strikes from Mora. Those never looked like landing.
Mora throws a left and a right that both miss

and Rommels counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Mora looks winded!

Mora bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rommels's guard.

Mora looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Mora is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Rommels is positioning himself well to prevent Mora advancing to mount.
Rommels is staying active underneath Mora, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mora is working for a submission of some sort.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Frederico Mora dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mora lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rommels circles away quickly and effectively.
Mora feints a jab promting Rommels to slip. Mora then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Rommels slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mora fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
No joy there for Mora, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mora throws a series of strikes that have Rommels backpedaling.
A nice combination there by Mora.
Rommels takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rommels is looking to clinch.
Mora misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mora throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rommels throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mora.

Rommels fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mora, pushing him back against the cage.

Rommels is trying to control the position but Mora postures up.

Mora wants to control from the top but Rommels keeps moving.
Rommels has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Mora has passed into side control.
Rommels is trying to control Mora's posture but Mora avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Rommels's face as Mora controls the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rommels struggling a bit here.
Mora lands a decent elbow from side control.
Mora fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Mora is looking to take a break and control but Rommels is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mora tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rommels parries the strikes from Mora easily there. Mora is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rommels to escape.

Mora decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rommels to his feet.

Rommels takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Mora goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Frederico Mora is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rommels dodges the punch combination from Mora.
Nicolas Rommels is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mora lands a two punch combo.
Mora throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mora's jab looks to have found its range, popping Rommels under the eye.

Frederico Mora showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Rommels tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Mora manages to circle out of the way.
Mora throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Rommels has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rommels there as he acknowledges the shot.
Rommels misses with a low kick as Mora jumps back.
Rommels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mora rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rommels moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mora lands with a nice combination. Rommels backs away looking to recover.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rommels.
Mora paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rommels is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mora.

Rommels misses with a two punch combination.

Rommels feints and as Mora raises his hands in defense, Rommels changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mora manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rommels manages to get himself to full guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mora wants to control from the top but Rommels keeps moving.
Rommels controls Mora momentarily but Mora frees himself.
Mora trying to control but Rommels is working from the bottom.

Rommels wants to sweep but no luck.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mora's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mora has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mora advances to half guard.

Mora seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Rommels is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Frederico Mora!
