Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kyoto Costa (ranked 2242 p4p, 2933 weight class) and Geraldo Hernandez (ranked 250 p4p, 313 weight class). The key to victory for Kyoto Costa has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kyoto Costa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Geraldo Hernandez! The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good exchange - Costa coming out on top. Costa looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Costa looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Hernandez! A lull in the action here. Hernandez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Costa's best efforts. Hernandez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Costa stalling. Hernandez is looking to improve his position.
Hernandez keeps trying to improve his position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice strikes from Costa there. Costa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Costa lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Hernandez actively working from the bottom here. Costa content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hernandez can do anything to dispel that myth. Hernandez looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Costa wants to control but Hernandez is keeping him busy. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Costa keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Hernandez trying to hold on to Costa's head to control him but Costa postures up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Costa lands a nice short elbow. Costa perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Costa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Costa prevents Hernandez from improving his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Costa controlling the action here. Hernandez is not content to let Costa control the position. Costa performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Hernandez looking for submissions off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Well, if Costa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hernandez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Costa will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Costa is thwarting Hernandez's attempts to control the position. Costa lands with a punch from half guard. Hernandez is not content to let Costa control the position. Costa content to control rather than advance. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Hernandez is staying active underneath Costa, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Costa seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kyoto Costa dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Costa moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Hernandez goes for a double leg but Costa avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Costa continues to drive forward. Costa dips to his left and cracks Hernandez with an uppercut! Costa looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Costa is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hernandez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hernandez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Hernandez drives through with a takedown into Costa's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Hernandez trying to control but Costa is working from the bottom. Costa trying to control the position here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hernandez postures up in Costa's guard and throws a big left but Costa blocks it. Costa keeping moving, preventing Hernandez from controlling successfully. Costa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hernandez manages to get himself to full guard.
Costa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Costa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hernandez can do to turn this around?
That's one minute gone in the round. Hernandez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Costa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Costa looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Hernandez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Costa is one step ahead there. Costa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hernandez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Costa has managed to get both his arms back between Hernandez's legs - danger averted. Costa wants to control from the top but Hernandez keeps moving. Costa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Costa trying to control the position from guard on top but Hernandez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Costa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Kyoto Costa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hernandez trying to keep a closed guard but Costa is proving a slippery customer.
Costa showing good wrestling skills to control the position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Costa won't allow Hernandez to sweep him here. Hernandez is pulling down on Costa's head. It's preventing any offense from Costa, at least for the moment.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Costa works Hernandez's body with a nice hook.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hernandez takes a shot right to the bread basket. Costa throws a quick inside leg kick. Hernandez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Costa to score an easy takedown into full guard. Costa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Hernandez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Costa manages to get himself to full guard.
Costa pulls Hernandez in close to prevent any damage. Costa utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Costa has Hernandez pulled in close to control his posture.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hernandez postures up and lands a big shot to Costa's brow. Costa controlling the position. This is a sustained period of stalling by Costa. Costa continues to stall. Hernandez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Costa swivels though and keeps the full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hernandez wants to control from the top but Costa keeps moving. Costa seems keen to control Hernandez's posture. Costa working a defensive guard here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kyoto Costa dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round! Hernandez dives in and grabs Costa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Costa pushes down on Hernandez's head and hops out. Hernandez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Costa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hernandez somewhat. Hernandez doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Costa comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Costa scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Costa is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Hernandez misses with a takedown letting Costa counter with a right hand. Kyoto Costa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Geraldo Hernandez. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Costa stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hernandez is rocked! Nice body punch from Costa. Hernandez is still on wobbly legs! Can Costa finish him? Costa drops Hernandez with a naaaaasty hook - Hernandez is in real trouble here! Costa dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
