Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Jose (ranked 3200 p4p, 3696 weight class) and Luc Etienne (ranked 366 p4p, 405 weight class). Fred Jose has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fred Jose! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Luc Etienne! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Colin Fotheringham and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jose scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Etienne fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jose, pushing him back against the cage. Etienne fails to pull the fight into his guard.
A right handed body shot lands from Jose.
Etienne manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Etienne wants to stand but Jose is controlling the position. Etienne is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Etienne wants to sweep here but Jose controlling him for the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Etienne has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Etienne can do anything to dispel that myth. Etienne is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jose dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jose continues to stall. Jose will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Etienne misses with a looping right. Etienne takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Etienne throws a left and a right that both miss
and Jose moves into the clinch. Etienne stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Etienne ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Etienne no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Etienne wants to stand but Jose is controlling the position. Jose showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Jose won't allow Etienne to get back to his feet. Etienne is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Jose seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jose has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jose really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Etienne drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Etienne rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jose moves out of range and avoids them all easily. As Etienne tries to get set, Jose tries to push him back and clinch up but Etienne manages to avoid the attempt. No joy there for Etienne, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Fred Jose will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Etienne lands with a straight right. Jose didn't see that one coming. Etienne throws a right hand that misses
and Jose connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Etienne clinches up against the cage. Jose stalling the fight.
Jose pushes Etienne back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Jose goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

It looks like Luc Etienne has been cut. Etienne jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jose walks away with a smile on his face. Etienne gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jose wants to clinch up but Etienne keeps it at a distance. Jose scores with a nice strike. Etienne throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Jose was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Jose tests Etienne's chin there with a solid looking shot. Etienne thows a left - swing and a miss! Etienne throws a left and a right that both miss
and Jose counters with a stiff right hand. Good exchange - Jose coming out on top. The fight moves into the clinch position. Etienne jumps into guard, dragging Jose to the mat.
Jose slips nicely into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Etienne wants to get back to his feet.
Jose decides to stand and escape the position. Etienne throws a right and a left that Jose avoids nicely. Fred Jose is winning the standup battle so far. Etienne closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Etienne tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jose just stands there and leans against the cage. Fred Jose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luc Etienne. Still in the clinch, Etienne scores with a nice short uppercut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jose blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Jose lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jose takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Etienne misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Jose tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Etienne's elbow. Etienne is trying to pull guard but Jose has him pressed against the cage. A head punch blocked on the inside by Jose. Etienne pulls guard effortlessly. Etienne wants to stand up but Jose is controlling him. Jose not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a sustained period of stalling by Jose. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jose continues to hold on tight. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Fred Jose will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Luc Etienne's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round! Jose with a jab. Jose is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Etienne forces Jose back against the cage and clinches. Etienne goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Jose tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. A short uppercut from Etienne. Etienne jumps guard but Jose turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Etienne. Etienne working hard to break the clinch. Jose tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Etienne's elbow. Jose lands a shoulder strike. Etienne lands a shoulder strike.

Jose is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Etienne throws a combination that misses and Jose connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Luc Etienne is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Jose lands a really nice looking cross but Etienne seems unphased.
Decent striking displayed by Jose there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Etienne misses with a few strikes there.

Luc Etienne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jose lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Jose pushes Etienne up against the cage in a clinch. Jose cracks Etienne with a nice body shot. Etienne lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Jose swings wildly with an uppercut but Etienne uses good head movement to avoid it. Etienne blocks an uppercut.

Fred Jose is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Etienne lands a nice shot to the body.
And that's the end of the fight! Fred Jose showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jose, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
