This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 1 losses; Jake Everett! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 1 losses; Mark Spagnolo! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Spagnolo has Everett up against the ropes in a clinch.
Everett has Spagnolo pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Everett pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Spagnolo tumbling to the mat - Everett dives into Spagnolo's guard. Everett is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Spagnolo reverses the position - he's now on top in Everett's guard. Spagnolo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Everett is on top in guard.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Everett stands and throws Spagnolo's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Everett (10) vs (2) Spagnolo Spagnolo is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Everett's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Everett trying to mount his opponent but Spagnolo defends it. Everett trying to control from half guard but Spagnolo is working away. Spagnolo is trying to get back to full guard.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Everett is figuring out what he wants to do next. Everett seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Spagnolo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Spagnolo tries to get to full guard but Everett has control of the leg. Spagnolo is in trouble now - Everett has advanced to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Everett (13) vs (2) Spagnolo Spagnolo has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Score +3 for taking back: Everett (16) vs (2) Spagnolo Spagnolo prevents Everett from getting a body triangle. Everett has the hooks in. Spagnolo is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Spagnolo is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Spagnolo is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Everett tries to get the hooks in deep but Spagnolo pushed the leg off. Everett is controlling the position but Spagnolo somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Everett wants to free his trapped foot but Spagnolo is holding on for dear life with his legs. Spagnolo is not content to let Everett control the position.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Spagnolo is doing well to control the position and prevent Everett from advancing to side control. Everett moves into full mount! Spagnolo won't be happy about that! Score +3 for passing guard: Everett (19) vs (2) Spagnolo Spagnolo tries to hold on but Everett postures up. Everett takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Score +3 for taking back: Everett (22) vs (2) Spagnolo Everett just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Everett tries to keep control of the position but Spagnolo is staying busy. Spagnolo tries to break free.
Spagnolo looking very determined here, making life difficult for Everett.
Spagnolo defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Everett (22) vs (4) Spagnolo Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Spagnolo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Everett has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Spagnolo has managed to get both his arms back between Everett's legs - danger averted.
