PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aatami Korpi (ranked 1574 p4p, 1508 weight class) and Ken Shamrock (ranked 200 p4p, 192 weight class). Shamrock is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dangerous Entrance Theme. Ken Shamrock is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aatami Korpi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ken Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Korpi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Korpi cracks Shamrock with an open hand slap.
Korpi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Korpi wants it to stay on the feet.
Shamrock takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Korpi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Korpi digs a good hook to Shamrock's body.
Shamrock uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Korpi.
Korpi goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shamrock misses with a takedown attempt - Korpi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Aatami Korpi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Shamrock.

Korpi on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Korpi tries to get out of the position.

Shamrock drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shamrock jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Shamrock working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Korpi has hold of Shamrock's hands but Shamrock slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shamrock looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Korpi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Shamrock is looking for a kimura but Korpi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shamrock to get the leverage.

Korpi is looking for a sweep. Shamrock is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Shamrock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Korpi defends it well.

Korpi motions for Shamrock to come forward. Korpi throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Shamrock wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Korpi, who protects the arm well.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shamrock in particular looking to stall.

Shamrock is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Korpi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Shamrock is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Korpi looks calm but he's in trouble here. Shamrock gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Korpi is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Shamrock lets go of the hold and Korpi can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ken Shamrock!
During a confident post fight interview, Ken Shamrock thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
