PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Mertel (ranked 2389 p4p, 1983 weight class) and Anakin Osborne (ranked 267 p4p, 219 weight class). Mertel comes into the arena with Mertel Fuck shit up blaring out of the sound system. Osborne has chosen Anakin's Dark Deeds - John Williams as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Viktor Mertel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anakin Osborne!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mertel tests Osborne's chin there with a solid looking shot.
It looks like Anakin Osborne has been cut.
Mertel connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Osborne momentarily.
Osborne clinches up with Mertel and pushes him back against the cage.
Osborne looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mertel tries for a takedown. No joy.
Osborne lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Osborne is pressed up against the cage. Mertel has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Osborne down to the mat. Osborne avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Osborne walks into a left hand.
Mertel lands a jab to the head.
Osborne looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Mertel dips to his left and cracks Osborne with an uppercut!
Mertel throws a poor cross that misses
and Osborne connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Osborne paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mertel fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Osborne to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Osborne looks to clinch but Mertel throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Osborne taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Viktor Mertel!
Viktor Mertel tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
