Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Vedor Smealianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kobe Mejia! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mejia bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Mejia misses with a hook. Smealianenko wants to land a leg kick but Mejia is out of range. Mejia connects with a crisp jab. Smealianenko connects with a right hand. Mejia shakes it off. Mejia throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smealianenko sees it coming and avoids it easily. Smealianenko tries to bum rush Mejia with a series of wild strikes but Mejia uses good footwork to avoid the assault. It seemed like Mejia was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Smealianenko throws a jab but it's blocked by Mejia. Mejia misses with a looping left. Mejia throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Smealianenko counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Mejia tries a head kick but it misses.
Smealianenko throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mejia pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Smealianenko throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mejia misses the jab. Mejia throws a big shot that misses. Mejia keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Smealianenko. Mejia throws a half hearted mid kick. Vedor Smealianenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smealianenko scores with a nice right hand.
Smealianenko swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Mejia swings and misses with a hook to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Donk. Mejia catches Smealianenko right on the button with a cross. Mejia tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Smealianenko misses the jab. Mejia lands a big head kick that sends Smealianenko tumbling to the mat! Mejia takes a step backwards and waves Smealianenko back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Smealianenko is rocked!
It looks like Vedor Smealianenko has been cut. Mejia misses with a head kick.
Oh Smealianenko is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Mejia dips down and scores with a jab to the body. This has been an exciting period of action! Smealianenko swings widly with a right hand
and Mejia counters with a huge left! Smealianenko is in big trouble! He's backing up but Mejia isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Smealianenko from any more damage. A dominating finish by Mejia!
