Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Xi Daerji!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daerji is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
James connects with a jab.
James shoots in for a double leg but Daerji sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Daerji throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
No luck for Daerji with that takedown attempt.
James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Daerji uses good head movement to avoid the hook from James.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Daerji lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

James has closed the distance and engaged Daerji in a clinch.
James has been working on his balance at Xtreme Fighting Gym, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Daerji.

James has Daerji pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Daerji manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Daerji looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
James shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Daerji as he jumps to the side.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from James.

James shoots in for a takedown but Daerji shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

James forces Daerji back against the cage and clinches.
James is looking to take this one to the mat.
Daerji is pressed up against the cage. James has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Daerji down to the mat. Daerji avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

James drives through and clinches with Daerji against the cage.

James pulls guard.
James is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Daerji stands and throws James's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Daerji decides to stand back up.

James clinches.

Daerji tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. James just stands there and leans against the cage.
James lands an elbow that stopped Daerji in his tracks for a moment.
Daerji tries to pull guard but James won't allow it.
James goes for a takedown in the clinch but Daerji prevents it.
Daerji tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Daerji is looking for a takedown up against the cage. James gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
James has Daerji pushed against the cage.
James is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Daerji is defending well.
James is trying to pull guard but Daerji turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Daerji shoots in but James avoids the takedown attempt easily.

James tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Daerji swivels and escapes.
James stuffs the takedown attempt from Daerji. Daerji gets slowly back to his feet.
Daerji keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Daerji is defended easily by James.
James is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Daerji can do to turn this around?

James scores with a one two! Daerji had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Daerji enables James to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Daerji manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daerji is trying to control the position but James postures up.

James has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Daerji is proving hard to escape from.

James stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Daerji to get to his feet.
James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Daerji is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Daerji circles away and we're back to standing.
Daerji keeps the fight on the outside.
James moves in looking to clinch but Daerji pushes him off.
James throws a head kick that misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

James dives in and scores a takedown into Daerji's guard.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Horrible takedown attempt by James or perhaps it was just good defense by Daerji, which made it look bad.
Daerji fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jake James is winning the standup battle so far.
Daerji leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Daerji follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Daerji misses with a head kick.
It looked like James was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Daerji.

Daerji drives through and clinches with James against the cage.

James fails with an attempt to clinch.
Daerji swats away the attempt to clinch by James.
Jake James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

James moves into the clinch successfully.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Daerji closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.
James lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Daerji tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jake James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xi Daerji.
James shoots for a takedown but Daerji saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A little jabbing left from Daerji on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
James fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Daerji takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

James is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Daerji is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Daerji is not content to let James control the position.
James controlling the position from side mount.
James trying to control the position but Daerji is working away.

Daerji manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Daerji on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

James stands up and beckons Daerji to join him on the feet.
James tries to clinch but Daerji moves away
and Daerji counters with a straight right hand.

James darts in and clinches Daerji up against the cage.
Daerji fails to pull the fight into his guard.

James manages to break the clinch.
Daerji tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but James paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Daerji manages to circle out of the way.
James tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Daerji defends well and James ends up having to push Daerji into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Daerji has had enough of the clinch but James keeps him there for the moment.
James tries for a takedown but Daerji manages to get underhooks.
Daerji is trying to pull guard but James has him pressed against the cage.
Daerji is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables James to keep the fight standing.

James pulls guard.
James is trying to control the position from the bottom.
James is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Xi Daerji has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
