PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alfea Rignold (ranked 4810 p4p, 5240 weight class) and Adam Burns (ranked 309 p4p, 324 weight class). Adam Burns acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alfea Rignold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Burns!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rignold counters with a takedown into side control.
Burns is trying to get back to half guard.
Rignold controlling the position from side mount.

Rignold decides to stand up, so the ref orders Burns to his feet.

Rignold feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Burns looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Burns is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rignold has his foot on Burns's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Burns works his way back into a safe position though.
Burns wants to control from the top but Rignold keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Burns tries to free his leg and advance position but Rignold is retaining full guard.
Rignold is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rignold seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Rignold feints and as Burns raises his hands in defense, Rignold changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rignold is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Burns controls Rignold momentarily but Rignold frees himself.
Rignold lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Rignold is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Burns closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Alfea Rignold overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Burns is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rignold is just riding it out for now. Burns eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Burns wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rignold keeps working.

Burns seems to be working for a kimura but Rignold defends the submission attempt.
Rignold keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Rignold avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Burns.

Burns is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Burns wants to control but Rignold is keeping him busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rignold scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Rignold slips a nice elbow through Burns's hands, connecting with Burns's forehead.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rignold in particular looking to stall.
Burns wants to get back to full guard but Rignold has passed into side control.

Burns is breathing heavily.
Burns on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Rignold happy to just control the position for now.
Rignold seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Burns for as long as he can get away with.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Check out the look on Rignold's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Rignold is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Burns's shoulder. That is not cool.
Rignold in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Burns is trying to escape the position but Rignold is controlling the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Burns throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rignold tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Burns is in Rignold's guard.

Burns takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rignold has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Burns doesn't defend quickly enough and Rignold has managed to lock this one up! Can Burns escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Rignold on a fantastic submission victory.
