Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Bird (ranked 176 p4p, 514 weight class) and Jesse Thomas Babcock (ranked 27 p4p, 70 weight class). Bird's entrance music is Dragula - Rob Zombie. A fine choice. Babcock has chosen 70 as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Bird! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jesse Thomas Babcock! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Babcock wants to clinch up but Bird keeps it at a distance. Babcock just misses with a punch to the body.
Babcock misses with a body shot
and Bird counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Babcock lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Bird at a distance.
Bird works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Babcock keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bird. Babcock does a little dance to reset his feet. Bird waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Babcock. Bird keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Babcock moves out of range as Bird strikes. Bird misses with an uppercut. Babcock drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bird defends it well. Tim Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bird misses with a low kick.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Babcock has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Babcock takes one on the button.

Babcock is rocked! Babcock closes the distance and clinches. Babcock is still on wobbly legs! Can Bird finish him? Bird goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Babcock seems to have recovered his senses. Bird misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Bird has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Forge 👊 in the buildup to the fight. Bird dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Bird misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Bird counters with a nice uppercut. Babcock changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bird looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Babcock cracks Bird with an elbow. That is naaassty. Babcock working the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bird is looking to reverse the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Babcock working the ground and pound. Babcock throws an elbow but Bird slips to the side and avoids it well. You can see the frustration on Bird's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Bird manages to work his way to half guard, despite Babcock's best efforts. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Babcock connects with a nice short shot to Bird's temple. Bird is trying to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Babcock passes to side control. Bird takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Bird is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Bird dodges the ground and pound from Babcock.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bird is pushing Babcock's head away, looking to escape. Babcock manages to hold on to the position though. Babcock sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bird is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Babcock lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Bird down.
Babcock laying and praying for a moment but Bird takes advantage and regains half guard. Babcock lands strikes from half guard. Bird has hold of Babcock's hands but Babcock slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Babcock is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Bird is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Babcock scores with a couple of nice shots. Bird keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Bird slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Bird bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Babcock's guard. Babcock seems keen to control Bird's posture.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bird trying to control the position from guard on top but Babcock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Babcock is controlling Bird's posture. Babcock wants to sweep but no luck. Bird trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Bird stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Babcock swivels though and keeps the full guard. Babcock is trying to control the position but Bird postures up. Babcock looking for a sweep. Not yet Babcock, not yet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Tim Bird dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Babcock throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Babcock listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Babcock slips a jab from Bird. Bird uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Babcock.

Bird takes a swing at Babcock's ribcage but misses. Babcock swings for the body but Bird moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round. Babcock wants to clinch. Babcock misses with a wild body shot. Bird throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nice uppercut lands for Bird. That snapped Babcock's head back.
Bird misses with a straight left. Bird throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Bird looks to score with a jab to the body but Babcock is just out of range. Bird showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Babcock.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Babcock thows a left - swing and a miss! Babcock fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bird looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Bird throws a jab but it's blocked by Babcock. Babcock moves out of range of the body kick from Bird.
Babcock throws a series of punches but Bird avoids them all with ease. A counter left hand to the body from Bird misses its target. Babcock cracks Bird with a good jab. This has been an exciting period of action! Babcock dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Bird leaves Babcock with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Babcock throws a body shot but no joy. Bird avoids the body shot from Babcock.
Bird moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Babcock doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Babcock comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Bird throws a hook to the side of Babcock's head but Babcock sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Bird misses the shot to the body. Bird misses with a straight right. Bird throws a right and a left that Babcock avoids nicely. Bird throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Babcock feints the counter takedown. Babcock tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bird paws at him with a jab and circles away. Bird swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Babcock lands with a good body shot. Bird misses the shot to the body. Bird throws an overhand right that lands on Babcock's shoulder, as Babcock tries to avoid the shot. Babcock is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Bird throws the left hand but Babcock avoids the punch easily. Bird scores with a jab to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Babcock misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. It looked like Bird wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Bird is looking to chop away at Babcock's legs. Bird throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Babcock.

Babcock is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Babcock closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Babcock lands in his opponent's guard. Bird preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Babcock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bird swivels though and keeps the full guard. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round! Jab by Bird. Jesse Thomas Babcock has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Babcock misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bird was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Bird takes a swing at Babcock's ribcage but misses. Bird throws a hook to the side of Babcock's head but Babcock sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Bird scores with a jab. Babcock acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Babcock rushes Bird and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Babcock doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Babcock. Bird tries to break free but Babcock pushes him back against the cage. Bird swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Bird breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bird throws a big shot that misses. Bird lands a big head kick that sends Babcock tumbling to the mat! Bird takes a step backwards and waves Babcock back to his feet - he wants the finish! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bird circles away from the clinch attempt.

Tim Bird is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Babcock fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Bird waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Babcock. Babcock takes a jab right on the kisser.

and Bird cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Bird misses the jab. Bird stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bird wants it to stay on the feet. Babcock gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Bird gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Babcock is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!
